Underclocked Sapphire 512MB X1800XT!

Hey Guys,

The X1800XT is supposed to have a core clock of 625Mhz and a memory speed of 1.5Ghz. I'm not getting that at all on mine. The Catalyst Control Centre is reporting the core at 593Mhz and the memory at about 1.38Ghz. I've been doing some looking around on the net and it seems this has happened to a few people.
Apparently this is the cards 2D speed and when you run a 3D application it's supposed to increase in speed. Others say that it's just faulty, or it's a drive/bios issue. Does anyone have any clear information on this? As my card is fairly new I'd like to RMA it if it is faulty. If not, grand. I'd just like to know.

Certainly sounds plausible, nVidia cards let you clock the 2d and 3d speeds differently, don't know about ATI though. Try downloading atitool or maybe rivatuner (that works with ati too doesn't it ?) and see what they have to say about it.

Thats the 2d speed. If you have dual monitor you can leave the catalyst center open and watch the speed go up when you launch a 3d game.
