I've seen recently links deleted because they lead to "torrent sites" a term which I am completely unfamiliar.
    1)What is a torrent site?
    2)Why is it banned?
3)How do I know if a site is a torrent site?

    1)What is a torrent site?
    Example

    2)Why is it banned?
Often leads to warez, porn etc

3)How do I know if a site is a torrent site?
It usually tells you the file you are downloading is a torrent. If not, then the word TORRENT is often located within easy viewing

Pointing to torrents is not allowed on boards. However, if the user can prove that the torrent does not breach any licenses: ie if they can prove that the data is freeware and allowed by the data creators/licence holders then it will most likely be allowed. If you aren't sure - don't post it as we don't want boards to get in trouble.

Strictly speaking torrents themselves are okay, illegal content (even indirectly referenced, as happens with torrents) is not.

The burden of proof of the legality is put on the poster for the simple reason that if you know the torrent is legal it's easy for you to show that when you post the link, but it can be difficult or simply impossible for a moderator to check the legality otherwise, so we have to just assume they are illegal in the absense of evidence otherwise.

Posting illegal material is considered a site-wide offense, rather than just an offense on the forum in question, and can get you site-banned.
