Fraudulent dealers

I've been doing some research for some news stories I'd like to publish about imported cars, car clocking and fraudulent car spec advertising. While trawling through cars today I found 1 imported car being sold be 3 different dealership with each one listing different mileage and 1 dealership advertising a higher spec than the car actually is.

    Here's the cars:

I found this pretty interesting and sent an email, see below....

"I would like to enquire about the 2004 Toyota Celica VVTI 190BHP (AS
NEW, UNMARKED) 1.8 Petrol (ref. 88) - False advertising, this celica isn't
190bhp - the 190 models are VVTL-i engines and the rev counter goes to 9000 instead of 8 and they have an oval exhaust, not a round one."

and here's the resposne I got.....

    "Inbox: celica
    From: per4mancecarz@hotmail.com
Subject: RE: CarZone Website - USED CAR Query

    go **** yourself u prick "

And the original poster was not enquiring to buy a car, from the mail its obvious you have no interest in buying, just pointing out what may have been a mistake.

Are you trying to defend the apparant response the OP received?

I run my own business, and I can tell you, you should never use abusive language or insults, especially in writing. If that company doesn't realise that, then it is quite obvious they are a half-arzed amature outfit.

I agree. I have now formed the opinion the dealer is actually a fraud, not to mention abusive, a well worded riposte pointing out the OP was wrong (or they dealer had made a mistake), would have caused me to have the opposite view.

Only mobile numbers? A Hotmail address?

Personally I think somebody is buying and selling cars as a "dealer" when in fact they have no business setup at all. It 'looks' like a dealership so people would be more likely to trust it I guess.
Why don't you get in touch with Carzone.ie and let them know?

mileage quoted as 11,000 but odometer shows 112,000...what a muppett.
Class alright. He even shouts about it having it's original auction report(with the proper mileage). They all should have that. While this crowd are so obvious there are many many dodgy traders in this end of the market(the really criminal aspect shouldn't be overlooked either as the car trade is a good way to launder money). Why they are not prosecuted is beyond me. Then again why anyone would buy an imported Jap car without proper research is really beyond me. Guys like this will continue to trade as long as customers remain gullible.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

A friend of mine was looking at cars down here a while ago. TBH, most of the cars don't look the best. At least one of thwm had a full exhaust system, sittign inside the car. Some of them had rubbish all over the interier, all in japanese. The guy himself was loud and well, obnoxious(sp?)

Ok, I couldn't resist emailing him myself:

    >fúck but it's gone now, anywayz I'm really looking for a car that's faster
    >than fúck - doesn't have to be much, but a little over fúck would be nice.
    >What do u suggest? Jeff

    Response:
i suggest you lick the back of my balls

I will admit that this was not a genuine enquiry.

Classic! You could have so much fun with this guy, he's more like a random insult generator than a car salesman.

Ring him and ask him if his prices include VAT - If he says YES ask him for his VAT number! The next thing I think you'll hear is him hanging up the phone.

Or ring up and pretend to be the Revenue, tell him your calling down tomorrow for an audit :D

This could be a fun game guys and girls. Emailed them earlier as follows:

    Hello,

I am enquiring about the car on carzone.ie located here: http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=387454 , Nissan 180SX **AS NEW-OUT OF THE BOX!!!!**.

Can you let me know if the car is being sold with it's box? It would be really useful as i don't have a garage to put the car into.

    And the response:

its being sold with its box, any chance i could have a go of your box?????

His "name" seems to be conor mcgonagle.

Anyone else fancy emailing?! Best response from him wins!

I've a feeling you may not get a response! Ask him if the price includes VAT, and if not... 'Can a cash payment me made wink wink'

-Edit- He's probably actually reading this thread, so he might only play along

If You Can Actually See The Mileage On The Odometer Reading Itself Who Cares Wat The Add Says??????? Its There In A Picture So Wats The Fuss??? You Guys Are Reading Into This Far Too Much,

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

So wondering why the stated mileage of a car is way off is reading into it too much? Ok so. Equally why not just put the proper mileage in the ad in the first place. Lazyness, dishonesty, stupidity? Why can't all the imports come with their auction report? If this lot or anyone else is bringing them in they get one so why not show it to the customer? That shows the true mileage, accident damage etc. There are ( a very) few that do, why not the rest? This lot advertise one that has a report as if that's amazing. It's not. They should all come with one. Hmmmm I wonder why they don't?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I imagine that would in some way contravene the acceptable use policy of the Revenue's email... ? It would be fairly similar to sending it out on headed paper. It may come back to haunt ya.
