Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

came across a computer today which i tried to open a word file on.

once i double click on the file, microsoft word will open but it will come up with a message saying something like "word needs to install frontpage" it would automatically try to install something but then says it needs a cd and i'd be left staring at the grey screen.

so i'd have to manually open files (open, my computer, my docs etc...) it will open that way but it was just a pain in the rear end.

anyone come across this before? i'd reinstall office only i can't find the original disc that came with it and its not my computer so i don't want to put my office edition on it.

    Try an Office repair?

    Add Remove> Change> Repair

you'd probably need the CD for that

Is it only happing to only one DOC ?
or is word trying the really annoying "install on first time use" dance ?

    which version of word ?

Try going to Start - Run and typing

    "C:\program files\Microsoft Office\office11\winword.exe" /a

or whatever your install path is for winword.exe. Hopefully that'll sort it out.

it's word 2003 & the rest of office is installed. the message pops up for EVERY word doc, not just 1, incredibly frustrating.

yeah i'm still trying to get the original disc although the owner would barely know what a disc looks like!!

havn't got a chance to mess about with the computer but will try the above mentioned. worst case i'll have to just use my disc and re-install so i suppose it's not too bad.

    try deleting normal.dot

word will create a default one if it's missing

Repair will work off any disk and majority of the time it doesn't require it at all, besides using the repair function with your disk will not install your version on to the machine so there are no licencing issues.
