Buying a stereo from the US.

    There's a car-stereo that's advertised as €149 in Halfords (CDX-GT300) but i can get the same unit from a retailer in the states for €77+shipping+harness/loom.

    does anybody know if there are differences between the two and in general, can US stereos be used in ireland? is the FM frequency range different there too?

    The FM range is the same but tuning in the US is in 0.2MHz steps unlike here where it is in either 0.1 or 0.05MHz depending on manufacturer. You can tune to 88.5MHz but not to 88.6MHz. So basically any frequency that has an even number directly after the decimal point cannot be tuned. So there will be a lot stations that you won't be able to tune to.

    The RDS system is similar but there is no AF (alternative frequency) function. So if you tune to RTE Radio 1 in Dublin and drive to Cork you will manually have to retune as the frquency changes. Most RDS stereos in Europe will automatically retune for you.

    Damnit, there's a reason it's cheap then! So what's this unit you have for sale mate? has it a front panel AUX in (for mp3 player)?
