Driving Galway to Kilkenny

    hey all, i'm going to be travelling from Galway to kilkenny for the Cat Laughs Festival at the start of June.
    After looking at the map, there doesnt seem to be any direct way of getting there!
    Does anyone have any recommended routes for the following scenarios?

    1) Leaving from Galway and going direct to kilkenny
    or
    2) Leaving galway for shannon and then carrying on to Kilkenny

    Galway, Loughrea, Portumna, Birr, Roscrea, Borris-in-Ossory, Durrow, Ballyragget, Kilkenny. Simple - its a straight line diagonally across the country.
