    Hi,

    I'm about to buy a new(ish) car.

I've put a deposit down on a Light Blue 05 Ford Focus LX 1.8 TDCi(Saloon Old Model)
Comes with Alloys, Fogs, Air Con & 6 disk CD Changer.
It's price is 16,000, but with 35k miles on it.

    I'm also looking at a
Black Vaxhaull Astra, 04, 1.7 CDTi, Club Model
This comes with Air Conditioning & Alloys
And there is only 20k on it.
It also comes in at 17,000

Personally the Astra looks more appealing, less mileage, better looks..
But it's a Vaxhaull, and in my opinion after owning 2 Fords & 1 Opel, Ford's are more reliable than GM Motor Car.
The Drive of the Focus was excellent & the 1.8 TDCi engine contained alot of power.

So for 1000 i can get an 04 New Model with 15k less mileage than a 05 Older Model Focus.

Your advice/opinion will be greatly appreciated

Are you sure the Focus is the 115bhp TDCi? Usually the basic LX model had the old TDDi engine from the old Mondeo afaik.

If it has the TDCi engine then I would go for that over the Vauxhall.

It will have the 1.8 TDCi, they stopped making the 1.8 TDDi in 03/04. However AFAIK the Lx Focus had a 100bhp verision of the TDCi, while the Ghia and Zetec had the 115bhp.

The CDTi is very reliable and proven.

Its the same diesel used by Fait and Alfa Romero. And industry critics have said that it is a good engine.

Opel has less power but better mpg and this one has less mileage

    Hi,

    It's a TDCi Enginer, 100bhp, quite responsive actually & a great drive

Friend had 03 Astra and recently traded in for 05 Focus, not the TDCi though. IMO, the Focus is a better car, but that's just from driving his cars on occassions.

The 05 Focus is the old Model, and also the Saloon Variant of it.

Looks wise it's not as nice as the Old Ford Focus Hatchback.

i prefer the old focus, and wouldn't buy a h/back myself, but that's just me. only ever driven the saloon, and really liked it.
