O2’s new “speak easy international” (SEI) tariff shows how the Irish mobile networks are ripping off native Irish subscribers. The SEI tariff is aimed at people who shop around and are willing to walk to the nearest phone shop and boycott the mobile phone networks when they want to call internationally. Or those who use a landline and carrier selection or VoIP rather than reaching for the mobile every time.

    Selected O2 SEI tariff items:

    Ireland to China 15c/min
    Ireland to Latvia 19c/min
    Ireland to Russia 19c/min
See link below for full list of destinations and rates

    Sucker destinations:
    Ireland to GB 95c/min
    Ireland to continental EU15 127c/min
    Ireland to USA 190c/min

As in virtually everything to do with mobile networks in Ireland there is no relationship between the price charged and the cost of the service. One can call most of these destinations for about 2c/min using VoIP (or free if both parties use VoIP).

    Ripoff Ireland.
    Ripoff mobile.
