Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A friend of mine is has a wireless network in his house and wants to extend it out to his work area which is in a "shed" at the end of his back garden.

The signal isn;t strong enough to get to the end of his garden, Any suggestions on what he could do?

    Thanks
    Tom

    That's all I know.

three options i can think of

-Place the router on a window at the back of the house

-Spend cash on thoes linksys repeater thingys which are from reports are rangeing ok to crap

-Antenna tomfoolary. Get a good wireless card that can take an external antenna and use it with an antenna.

Id just put the router on a window and see what the signals like unless ur willing to take a hardcore approach

OK seeing as moving the shed option wasn't taken up...

Change the router for a WRT54G and try to connect again, if this still doesn't have enough signal strength then remove one of the antennae and attach a high gain directional antenna in its place, having the router by a window will help greatly. Is it a lappie or a desktop he wants to connect? Either way as NutJob said getting an external antenna for the PC side will probably help too. BTW have they done a site survey in the shed to see if there are any other networks on the same channel in the area? Still think moving the shed is a good option ;)

Try saving up for an 802.11n router - you can see them on http://www.linksys.com/ ("Wireless- N")

Not sure how good they are but they say they're great! You will probably have to get some compatible wireless N cards too tho.

Very expensive option but i'm sure the prices will come down at some stage as it is still just a draught standard i think

linksys repeaters only work with linksys routers beware

Forget wireless lads, use something like this http://www.solwise.co.uk/net-powerline-av.htm

As long as the power for the shed is going into the house, you are sorted..... used them and they are the job.
