Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Spurs should throw in a cheeky bid for Martin Petrov, they badly need a left sided winger.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

Strikers can offer a lot more than goals and Crouch does that. He almost never loses the ball (although this sometimes results in negative backwards play) and is a good team player and will offer something different to what you have. I rate him as a player. He's not a world beater but a proven PL striker and is worth around the 10m mark IMO.

Spurs mate of mine claimed that Crouch was not good enough to play in the PL a couple of years ago. Not even for Derby (we all remember how bad they were). He's absolutely sickened with the signing.

Lots of spurs fans are. Not champagne enough for us:rolleyes:

Seriously we have run ahead of ourselves in recent years and got a bit too big for our boots. Our best season was one were we had a solid team, who worked for each other and had a bit of passion..not many superstars.

'Arry has the right idea. Its the first time in a long long time that I am happy with the direction we are going.

Honestly fella's Crouch is a good signing for us (and Im no happy clapper either, I was appalled with the Bent and Bentley signings).

Just wondering if ye reckon there is any chance of Harry rescuing Becks from the US? I honestly believe he would do a great job for ye especially after buying a big, I mean tall target man! Plus he is a Spuds fan.

    No he is not.

Was on the books at Spurs as a kid, regularly turned up in a United shirt.

Really? My apologies, I was always under the impression he was. I would still love to see him back in the PL fighting for a WC spot next year. Most likely place would be Spurs too IMO. Thought about Everton too but they could never afford him.

Phil Brown going for the record for the most rejections from players he's trying to sign?

I think Sunderland might have the upper hand on Villa if only because Bent won't want to swap 3rd place in Spurs' pecking order for a fight for a starting role at Villa...would he get the nod ahead of Carew, Heskey and Agbonlahor?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

hed get the nod ahead of heskey and gabby, in a flash

itd be him and carew up front

there was talk a while back that he wanted to come to us, and was stalling the sunderland bid coz he knew of our interested so im cautiously optimistic. i rate bent, and i think our style of play would suit him. but we shall see

King, Woody and Dawson all likely to miss the start of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

I think King is going to be ok for start of the season its just that he can only play once a week and probably won't be able to play a match on saturday if he played one the previous sunday.
Woody could be out for a while tho might need a hernia operation and Dawson is out for a month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

It's time to plan long term for King's inevitable early retirement, so Bassong would make a great signing IMO.

Is Bassong really that good though? Never really paid much attention to him but just feel there are better options.

Personally I would prefer Distin or one of Dunne, Onuoha or Kompany.

There was also talk of Heitinga from Athletico which I think would be a great signing.

Bit hard to make a judgemwnt call on somebody you haven't paid much attention to...:D

Onuoha and Kmpany will not be leaving City.

Heitinga is unlikely to swap CL for Carling Cup.

Distin would be a great signing also, but Bassong has years ahead of him, and is a very talented player.

Bassong has 'said' now that spurs is his preffered destination if he leaves Newcastle according to ssn

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭veXual

Bassong would definately be a quality addition. Could it be possible Redknapp my lean towards Distin also having previously worked with him?

I have to say I'm a fan of Distin he's pretty solid at the back and at 31 he's still got a few years ahead of him.

The Sun (haha!) is linking Spurs (according to BBC) with a 10 million move for Samba.

Allardyce would snap their hands off for half that. Samba is another Titus Bramble - having a great game only to undo it all with one colossal mistake.

I'm actually hoping he won't get his game for Blackburn this year and we'll start with a back four of:

    Jacobsen - Nelsen - Givet - Warnock

But from pre season it looks like...

    Jacobsen - Samba - Nelsen - Givet

and Warnock will play in midfield.

Either way, I doubt there's an ounce of truth in the rumour (I was there was!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

redknapp would be more likely to go for warnock i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,251 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

Spurs need a central defender though and Warnock isn't a central defender. He can play central midfield but plays on the wing in defence.

Also, Villa were sniffing round him and were more or less told where to go!

Redknapp likes his players tall and athletic (and black ;)) so I can see where the link to Samba comes from, but £10m is silly money and I'd have hoped we stopped paying silly money when Comolli slung his hook.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

we could certainly do with a bit of hieght and strength in the team don't know about samba tho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

Now there's talk of some kid called Beevers from Shef Wednesday for CB.

All the names linked and I still have'nt heard the one's I want. Dunne or Distin please.

I do think the CB signing will be crucial this year though...even the most optimistic fan has to see King and Woody are ropey on the injury front (Woody seems to be getting better though). I can see the logic behind looking for a youngster but Id feel better with an experienced quality CB who we know can come in and do the job.

If Spurs paid 5 million for Samba I'd be surprised and I'd snap their hand off. He is young though. He'd have a good half decade more in him than Distin/Dunne would.

Bassong is not worth £8m - and I think it's ridiculous they spent that much.

8 mil sounds a lot better than 10.

Still a little worried about this but Ill reserve judgement until I see a bit more of him. Nice to sign a CB...good knows we're gonna need one.

Now another good strong CM to partner Palacios and we'll be looking quite good.

Pav looks set to earn a start on tomorrow against Bolton and it'd be great to see him do the business upfront Crouch doesn't have a good enough finish to continue starting if Pav puts his head down and starts playing football he'll force his way into the first team I think he could make a deadly partner for Defoe upfront and at the moment our attack has gotten predictable and easy to figure out so a change could see the goals and wins return.

Also Lennon is set to find out if he needs an operation or not today after his recurring injury returned saturday during training.

Lennon is huge if we want to maintain a top four push and while Bently has performed well in his abscence he is still sorely missed.

he could possibly be back training if all goes well, but it's very hard to see him becoming match fit before the end of the season if it's a full tear as the media are reporting.

Down to the bare bones, 5 kids on the bench. Poor Harry. Wheres Robbie ?

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/redknapp-rues-defoe-blow-as-striker-tears-hamstring-1924394.html
The best-case scenario is that Defoe, who despite his injury was able to jog during Spurs training yesterday, will miss four matches – Premier League games against Stoke, at the Britannia Stadium today, Portsmouth and Sunderland, as well as next Wednesday's FA Cup quarter-final replay against Fulham. He could therefore return for a possible cup semi against Portsmouth on 11 April.

The worst-case scenario? Redknapp does not even want to think about that. "I don't know what it is, we just keep getting injuries," he said. "We're short. There will probably be five kids on the bench against Stoke."

Redknapp is down to the bare bones as he surveys the wreckage of his squad. David Bentley was expected to return today but he is a doubt after being struck with a virus.

Redknapp attempted to put a brave face on things, however, as his side try to maintain their grip on fourth place and the final Champions League place. "We've had injuries for weeks and weeks and weeks but we've coped well. We coped when Aaron went. We missed him but other players have come in and done well," he said.

"We've got to keep it going until the end of the season and not make excuses about injuries."

sayin 2 weeks but reckon it be a month , i'd be hoping he might be back mid april for games against all TOP 3 sides.

Harrys signing of Krancjar for 2.5m , what a bargain!...class act is Krancjar.

I actually think he should start away games seeing him today dropping into midfield when we had to defend and then work just behind crouch when we attacked was excellent

Also Kranjcar only had 6 months left on his deal and said he wasn't going to sign a new contract with all the players that where leaving so portsmouth had there hands tied really there :p

Global football on setanta Ireland show highlights of it but it's really just the goals and he doesn't really score.

Great news tho he's on the edge of the brazil squad so hopefully he makes it and we get to see him Spurs fans hsve been making a lot of noise about him without ever actually seeing him so it'd be nice to have him come in and be class for us:)
