I personally think that the weather is gonna contribute to a draw for this one

was just watching it there and the skies dont look too great, and the forecast isnt much better. I think another draw could bo on the cards. BTW Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first.

in fairness, flintoff would have batted first too if he had won.

    day 2 delayed for rain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭Washout

Pietersen putting a fantastic innings together on 118* (what else is new...) with England 262-5.

may it rain for the rest of the week

    and what does that mean?

Anyways England in the driving seat at 262 for 5 as I type, is Pietersen the new Flintoff?!

    Mike.

The big man is on fire.

    Mike.

Nope. Collapso. 295 all out. Pietersen finished 142 but Flintoff only got 9... this match ain't nearly over yet!

Ooops! The always anticipated batting collapse has occured but I don't think its going to matter much or will it?

    Mike.

That tail was never going to wag once Jones went, they needed runs from him (and it goes without saying, Flintoff.) Another reason why Monty won't be on the boat to oz, he can't bat or field like the wheelie bin.

    27/1#

EDIT: just as I say that, another boundary that could've been saved by Monty... it was funny in India... not sure now...

isnt Pieterson just **** though ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

Don't think Monty can make the Ashes squad. His bowling comes in fits and starts and frankly his fielding is awful about three-quarters of the time. Would be amazing to have the Barmy Army chanting his praises in their thousands in the MCG or the Gabba though.

didnt see any play today so really can`t comment, but i feel england should have got a much bigger total, nice to see KP putting on a good innings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

tbh I can't see Sri Lanka making a decent inroad at 86-4. Trust Monty to make me eat my words by being 2-39 though, with the magical Hoggard 2-14.

they will not have to if the weather keeps up

Spoke too soon on both counts! Sri Lanka 171-4, Vandort 68* and Dilshan 58*. Strange how rain can make those guys perk up!...

looks like england are intent on messing this one up aswell

Hoggard's just made the 5th wicket. Probably a big mental barrier just gone. 181-5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,800 ✭✭✭county

194-5 at the end of play,i feel this has draw written all over it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

Or not. Not when Sri Lanka go all out with Plunkett getting 3-17, and England have a day and a half to score 14 runs with 7 wickets in hand!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

All over with 6 wickets in hand.

    Mike.

good win for england today - it was a late decision to go down to egbaston but i was glad i did - roll on trent bridge - my only problem is that i am back in ireland for the first 3 days - tickets for day 4 +5 but i dont think it will last that long
