Seriously, Ive never seen it like this, pages are loading instantly, even the home page, and its lunch hour! As soon as I click Im there. Most strange and frightening, I miss having time to thing about my posts as the page loads* :p

*Obligitory look down Senior gift horse's neck.

Edit: Actually unless you're able to take credit for Bebo (usually slower than paint drying) and my email accounts too then perhaps something has changed on my end (both perhaps?)

Is everyone else experienceing uber speed?

There will be a few odd cases as the lads are mucking about incredibly deep in the system with db indices and what have you. I'm actually not aware of what Regi/Cloud/Ecksor are doing but they are pretty much ripping the thing apart and reconstructing it.

Doing that while a site serves nearly a quarter million pages a day on average is like supercharging a Dodge Viper while its doing 100 down the motor way.

That's not good enough. 1 page out of a hundred was slow. I demand a refund.

Maybe I can shed some light on the speed issues :)
There are inherent preformance issues with message board software (VBulleting included). The main one, which was the reason boards.ie was very slow, especially at peak time, was the search.
The current boards.ie search is using BoardTracker powered search mechanism instead of the inefficient internal one. Not only your searches are faster, they also do not create a load on the servers and are unrelated to the load of the site itself. So even when other pages are slow, search should be as fast. The search is very different from the old search you were using. You can search by relevancy, use word stemming (search for 'talk' will also show results for talking, talks, talked etc...) or search by date, in a date range etc..

However, at the moment, it is still possible to use the built in search. As far as I know, Regi is trying to divert that to the BoardTracker powered search as well, so that those will not cause the site to slow down.

When you are accessing a page and it takes 13 seconds or more, it is most likely because of another parallel page is loaded, which uses a very inefficient database query. We know of several such pages that some of you still access from time to time, such as the subscribed threads list (in case of specific members who are subscribed to many threads) as well as other pages. It is my understanding that Regi will address this issue as well.

Other than that, we have helped tweak and tune the servers for maximum performance and you all notice that of course.
If you do get errors, database related or other, I suggest reporting them with the exact error you are getting. That will help to identify and correct the error better.

I would personally be happy to answer any questions you might have about the subject.

    Do you work for boardtracker?
BoardTracker.com, a Pidgin Technologies property, is an innovative forum search engine, message tracking and instant alerts system designed to provide relevant information quickly and efficiently while ensuring you never miss an important forum thread no matter where or when it is posted.

    @pidgin.

Any chance of explaining how Boardsearch works?

Presumably your search server has to have access to the Boards DB?

Must admit its flying along now. Best performance in ages.

I would of assumed it was a plugin that uses a spider to gather the info, hence why the tags help.

We have a spider similar to googlebot only designed specifically for forums so its much more efficient and accurate since it only extracts the thread data while ignoring any other text on the page. The thread data is then indexed on our search servers.

When you do a search here the request is sent to our servers and then the results are sent back here for display so you can do as many searches as you want here and it will create no load on these servers which is one of the reasons why the board is faster now.

Site is very fast the last few days, good job. Now to find some way to talk the boss into buying me a decent work PC that can keep up with it ...
