There are no new tunes left!

I doubt the Chillies actually realised they had heard that tune before, they just though hey 'that sounds good'. Ask George Harrison (well if you could!).

    Mike.

Its the same more or less, happens a lot but not usually as blatently.

No big deal as far as I'm concerned

nah, tbh the song is the exact same, that doesn't really happen that much.

you could understand if there was a little difference, but the whole thing is the exact same.

Yowza. I'm sure it was just a tribute to a song they like.....

Who did that Vodafone song a few years back? That ripped off the Rolling Stones big time but no-one got sued.

    Mike.

Whether they knowingly ripped it off or if was a complete coincidence, that has to be one of the worst "plagerisms" I've heard. It's exactly the same song.

Is that RHCP track off the new album?

    Plagiarism makes Pighead

And thats all I have to say on the matter.

Meh, its not an uncommon chord progression. Could just be a complete coincidence. Or else it could be a nod to one of JF's influences, which would tie in with the video,

Everybody knows Tom Petty ripped off the chords from Lynyrd Skynyrd ;)

I'm pretty sure they've speeded the Tom Petty song up.

Even so, they're remarkably similar, but I can see how this would happen.

I hear that the opening notes of the solo at the end of the song are a rip off of Hendrix too.

And the opening notes of Can't Stop are ripped from some song on Geff Buckley's Grace.

Is there anyone they won't rip off?

Somebody stop them, they crazy! :p

Was it the Dandy Warhols ?

Thats the group, Jumping Jack Flash was the riff.

    naw - brown sugar, innit!

Sure if you've heard one Stones riff...! I'm not the only one to have felt a certain similiarity.

Brown Suger gets a mention too.

    Mike.

Jebus, it's exactly the same! RHCP aren't the only ones to rip off Tom Petty. The intro chords to Take That's Back For Good are uncannily like the intro chords to Freefalling.
I agree. Dandy Warhols' Bohemian Like You has a very similar riff to Brown Sugar.

i will admit that they sound pretty much the exact same but what they fail to tell you here is that they have sped up the Tom Petty song quite a bit, its not quite as clear cut as them completely ripping him off

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭The Free Man

    hahaha

i just listned to the tom petty song, its sped up a small bit, but theres no doubt that rhcp ripped him off.

Doesn't surprise me. RHCP have sounded all out of ideas for quite a while, made sense that they'd rip off a true legend of Rock n' Roll just to line their pockets.

Hope Tom sues their asses off...

Listened to 'Can'tStop' for for the first time just now in order to see for myself. The opening 20seconds sound a little like opening to Cherub Rock I guess, but I hear any Pumpkins in there beyond that.

Which Pumpkins tune are you refering too (or do you mean the CherubRock thing I mentioned)?
