Im thinking of getting a toyota levin '93 but the seller says the gearbox mesh bearings are on the way out? iv never heard of these so im not sure if it could lead to further gearbox trouble. does anyone know anything about these or what the cost of getting them replace are? thanx for any help on this, ive had a few bad deals in the past so im tryna avoid another one.

IMO gearboxes cost too much to repair to be worth bothering with, they either work or they dont. If they don't you need to be finding a replacment box.

not worth it. sounds like car was driven by rally driver.

I've paid 350 sterling for a gearbox rebuild including steel caged bearings on the (Honda derived) PG1 gearbox in my Rover. Others have paid a little less, some a little more. No doubt it will be dearer in Rip Off Ireland, but gives you an idea anyway.

possibly seller was talking about synchro hubs which are pricey(more likely main dealer parts department) plus you have to consider changing clutch at the same time
