Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Preparing a fairing for spraying

Calling all spray painting experts! I've stripped my CBR250 to paint it and I need advice on panel prep. The stickers are a pig to take off, I can get the plastic off with a hot air gun but it leaves the adhesive and this is coming off very slowly with standard thinners.

I've tried petrol, diesel, white spirit, panel wipe, meths and hot soapy water but all are even slower - I don't want to use anything which is going to cause a problem when I go to paint it. The problem is that the adhesive softens and the lacquer also softens and I am scratching it as I go. Help!!

I'm painting it purple/orange HOC flip with black trim and ghosted logos and I wonder what is the best primer to ensure maximum adhesion on the panels? I've bought 2k black for the subframe (which is rusty) and the petrol filler - is it best to take it to bare metal and etch prime, or flatten with 1200 grit, prime and paint as normal.

    Wotchewfink?

Don't overheat the stickers with the hot air gun , try jizer to remove the residue , thinners could soften everything below and cause you problems later.

WD40 will get rid of the adhesive, I'm not sure but I don't think it would affect the panels.

I'm being very gentle - too much heat and the stickers tear when I pull them. Also with the thinners, it has to be on just long enough to soften, too long and the paint starts to craze and will require rubbing. I'm not going to paint anything for a few weeks to allow the thinners plenty of time to work its way back out.

@NiSmO, you have to sand in order to get a smooth surface and give the new paint something to grip, you only have to prime if you have exposed plastic or metal underneath. Exposed plastic has to be pre-treated with an adhesion promoter or any paint will flake off.

I'm off to try WD40 - I haven't seen Jizer in years, can you still get it?

I started on the petrol tank earlier and even though its been empty and open for weeks, I still had petrol vapour from the heatgun coming out so I stopped. So far I have the top fairing and one side panel done - this is bloody slow...
