Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

11850.ie doesn't appear to work at all I have to say,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,744 ✭✭✭Táck

yes 11850 doesnt work. tried it yesterday. still not received the text.

that free-sms.nr one doesnt work either.

there is a niche in the Irish market there to any budding IT entrpreneurs* reading this!!! even though only Three.ie customers will really be interested. and 085/086/087 who exceed their monthly limit.

*who have too much time on their hands. a common occurence in the IT industry imo!!!

For all you Meteor Ireland customers out there, I have created a small
program you can use to send free texts via Meteor website without
having to log in each time. You dont even need to open a web browser.

Note: You must have a valid Meteor Ireland phone number and meteor.ie password to use this tool.

    Features:

    * Phonebook function.
    * No limit on the characters you may send (it breaks them up into separate messages).
    * Shows remaining messages (currently 300 per month on Meteor)
    * Enter your login details only once.
    * Very simple interface. Press 'Enter' to send the SMS.
    * Works behind proxies (not fully tested with all types).
    * Works on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux & Solaris.

I used www.iol.ie while O2 was being upgraded but you are limited to a mere 3 texts per day :( Afraid I don't know of any other sites..

fbradyirl - don't suppose you know if anyone has created similar software to your app for O2 customers?

This guy here has created a command line app for O2

    http://www.mackers.com/projects/o2sms/
Its using perl so Im not sure how easy it is to get working on Windows.

If anyone wants to modify my app to work for O2 then feel free. I made it using Java. I have put the source code here:

fbradyirl that's mighty impressive, I'd be tempted to get a meteor sim just for this! When you say there's no limit on the characters you may send (it breaks them up into separate messages), would the recipiant recieve several single messages or one long one?

Anything similar out there for vodafone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 195 ✭✭Toy

Actually just had a look at o2sms and the current version works with vodafone! It doesn't seem to split long messages yet though.

hi toy, what happens is the recipient will get a bunch of text messages with a number on each. e.g. (1) ... (2) ... etc. All my app is doing is pretending to be a web browser so I am limited to whatever Meteors website gives me. Works ok for me though.

I dont think theres anything out there for Vodafone, but someone who can program & has a Vodafone login should be able to modify my code to get it to work with their service.

    Cheers.

English Premiership goals? Damn right about getting your priorities right...if your from Ireland, support an Irish team! Thats what everyone is other countries do and its the only way it should be!

As for texts - normally I wouldnt go over the 300 Vodafone used to give me and now I'm on Meteor (well, nearly on it...see another thread on how to help me there!!!) I get 300 too. How could you go through that many?
