At this year's annual TIFball new TIFman talks old TIFbull.
GerryFahyChairTif.jpgGerry Fahy, in his day job Vodafone strategy director, tells us to shut up with complaining: "the ‘Rip-off Ireland’ tag cannot be applied."

On broadband he presents the old incumbent/DCMNR/ComReg bull: “Basic access has been largely addressed via multiple technologies and we now need to communicate this effectively...
Significant investment is taking place in broadband with today over 70 percent of homes having access to broadband-enabled exchanges. This statistic in turn ignores significant alternative broadband technologies which are available such as wireless broadband, 3G, satellite and the Government MANs. This means that the vast majority of customers have access to broadband, but perhaps not necessarily a choice of competing service offerings."
He goes on to flog the dead demand stimulation donkey
“The challenge for both industry and government is to address the demand and choice issue. Through intense competition on service and price, industry has done a lot but perhaps more can be achieved with the co-operation of government on some innovative demand stimulation schemes.”

The most peculiar thing is his kiss of death given to our wreckulator's callcosts.ie waste. Gerry Fahy, as one of the strategists to make it practically impossible for the Irish mobile customer to make intelligent price comparisons based on per minute charges, praises this new self-serving, costly and useless "service" of ComReg.
"It is also appropriate to recognise ComReg’s (Commission for Communications Regulation) role in this regard with the launch of their Callcosts.ie service, which advises customer of the best deals available on service packages."
