Yes, this law is nearly a hundred years old and their convictions were quashed. That sends the wrong message! Here is th original press report:

    What the hell ?!

The laws here are a bit f****d up as of recent, eh ?

The laws aren't the problem, they are a product of the times in which the were written, it is the problem of inertia within the administration, the judiciary, and the legislators not keeping up with social changes / progress.

They seem to know there are problems with some laws, wait for a test case or for a chalange then react in a panic. Stand knee jerk, keep the proletariat happy with tabloid laws!

Hence the current apparent lack of justice in recent times, regardless of the species.

The atorney generals' office need to be more proactive and less reactive in which laws need to be changed. The judges must be sick of the bad press as it appears that they are the ones being calous twards the victims, whereas they know that if they make a particular ruling it can be overturned as "unjust" because it violates the statutes, must be very frustrating to hand down a leagaly correct but morraly banckrupt verdict and know that the red tops will have a sound bite go without really understanding the issue!!

Sorry I know all above was off topic, esp. as I agree with the sentiment of the poster! One of my cats was the sole survivor of her litter after some b****ds tied her and her kin to a railwayline, if I met the guy and had opportunity....

One last point on this, I know never a popular idea, but why not pay the dpp solicitors / barristers and equilant amount to that which can be earned in the average private practice (I know this is like suggesting teachers need more holidays!), but if you want to attract the brightest to prossecution not the defence......

Wow, so if someone's merely present when child porn is being downloaded, and just, like, looking at it, not aiding and abetting it....

What a crock of you know what.

    Dear All

I don’t know how many of you saw the BBC1 Panorama programme about the Irish dogfighting ring last night (30.08.07)

The footage shown in the programme was horrific and one of the men featured who was involved in this cruelty and abuse was a Gaelic footballer, a popular sport. He has already been convicted and fined for keeping dangerous dogs and the footage showed him planning dog fights and discussing stealing a dog to use in a dog fight.

I have written a petition to ask the GAA, the Gaelic Football Association, to suspend this man from playing Gaelic Football. I do not believe that such a cruel man should be allowed to enjoy the privileged lifestyle that he does, and also feel strongly that he should not be allowed to continue in his position of role model in Ireland.

Please read the petition and sign it if you would like to show your support.

If you would like to contact the GAA directly, their contact details are:

    queries@gaa.ie
    pressoffice@gaa.ie

Dog fighting is not a sport – it is a cruel and horrific crime.

Please forward this email on to all your contacts.

    Regards

    Jane

Ffs, people who are that cruel to animals are probably going to be cruel to humans too...in the USA if you get charged with animal cruelty, the authorities keep an eye on you cos they reckon that you're high risk to repeat that sort of behavior again, whether it's animals or humans.

IMO people who are convicted of animal cruelty should be banned from owning animals for life.

Arranging to steal animals (family pets for goading and "training" of so-called fighting dogs) - that really aggravates me. The guy should be publicly denounced by the GAA, and separate charges brought against him if the authorities find evidence of such theft.

I'd like to see worse done to this guy and his cohorts, but that's probably sinking to his stinking level.

TBH its par for the course, the laws are antiquated in the is area. The guys who were organising it wont get much worse, fined and banned from owning animals for a while.

Almost missed this part. So it's not enough that he has to inflict cruelty on the animals himself, but he also sees fit to inflict misery on pet owners as well. Disgusting individual.
