Hey folks. As we really are into the last lap of 6th year, I'm sure it's dawned on some of us that our results won't meet our expectations. This could mean, yup, repeating :(.

Has anyone thought about this much, and if so, are you content with repeating? I can't bear the thought of doing LC all over again!!

I repeated, i know people who repeated it twice! its not all that bad. Plus its alot easier the second time round! but make sure its what you want to do when you set out to repeat, no point making a half arsed attmpt and getting the same result as your first time round!

PLus the leaving is actually piss! Its alot easier then you might think and you will probably do fine, just don't get worked up about! And you can get worried when you cme up against real exams in college!:D :D

    I repeated for three reasons
    My age
My results ... I know I could do better than what I had gotten
The fact that I had no idea what I wanted to do.

3 of my friends got around the same result as me last year and they all decided to do Business Studies at the last minute. Now they can't stand it and two of them are thinking of dropping out all the while I'm repeating upping my points and finding what I really wanted to do rather than just rushing into the first course that I was offered.

Best decsion I ever made it was well worth it. Only thing is that I had to learn the new Geography course for the first time in one year along with Art. The poets/poems and stories/texts in Irish and English all changed too. So the only subjects that stayed the same for me were Biology German and Business.

It really wasn't that bad and that year can make such a difference.

if that isnt a reason to study your ass off for another 3 weeks and not repeat...i dunno what is

To be honest I don't think there is much chance of reppeating for me. I got 70 points over what I needed in my mocks and I have other choices of course that are lower. So I should get them even if I don't get my first choice.

    couldnt pay me to repeat...

if i dont get my frist choice, i'd be happy with my others, or even my level 7 1st choice

i really really want my first choice, but if i didnt get it, theres no way i'd repeat

I need 450 points which I have a feeling I wont get, but I think I'm just going to go with whatever I'm given! NO WAY IN HELL would I go through all this crap again.

and it was the best thing I ever did.

I did quite poorly first time round so I obviously did way better in the repeat. I found that I matured ALOT that year and was more ready for the college experience ahead.

I moved schools and was exposed to an environment that was far more about learning and development so that undoubtedly contributed.

Don't fear it - if it needs to be done, do it. Trust me - in ten years time, that year will seem laughably short and pricelessly valuable.

I'm finished college and I'm 20. Doesn't matter what age you'll be aslong as you do it.

I don't think i will repeat if I don't get the points. I made a mess of the mocks (235 points doing 5 hons subjects wtf), and the only two courses I feel like doing are 270 and 335 points, I've been workin at it and on the chance that I don't get either, I'm just gonna do a PLC or take a few years out and apply as a mature student.

ah im repeating at the mo in the tute. it isnt that bad, although im actually less prepared this year than i was last year. ive spent the whole year just messing!
so i dont think im going to get my course......again!
i think i will just go over to england. i only need 515 and a A2 in maths and chem over there. plus the halls of residence seem cool

i disagree!!i repeated and wudnt reccommend it to anyone!!it was the hardest year ever!!i had to do 3 new courses in one year and it means im not prepared at all for the exams!!!altho the course was hard i repeated in an all boys school and loved it!!it was the best year ever!!i am a girl btw lolol!!i did nothin but mess all year and i met my boyfriend there aswell!!!it wasnt a complete loss i suppose but as for the academic side i wudnt repeat if i was given the chance again!!!

    im repeating at the mo

    its not sooo bad

but then again i cant really complain
i got offered the courses i wanted last year
    but didnt take them
cos i felt i was too young for college
so i just thought **** it ill repeat and improve

I repeated last year and it's the best decision I've ever made. At this stage just focus on your exams, but if come August you think you could've done better and you have your heart set on a course it's well worth it.

I had great craic, and you make loads of friends who are going trough the same thing. It can be annoying if all your friends are in college but it's worth the extra year to get what you want. You'll spend 3/4 years in college, and it's worth an extra year in school to do a course you love.

I know someone who took this year off purely because of the world cup. He's either unbelievably stupid, or realised he wouldn't have studied anyway and bit the bullet in September

Meh, I someone I know who is repeating only goes in for the classes he needs to. Doesn't have to wear a uniform or anything. Would that be up to the school or is it a common thing?

I repeated, and I can honestly say that it was one of the happiest years I have had. I went from an school environment where I felt belittled and humiliated to an environment where the teachers actually had faith and belief. We were treated like adults for the first time ever.

Not only did I learn a lot, the whole class had fun as well. That in itself was a culture shock. I went from having a knot in my stomach going into the classroom, to enjoying it.

If your 16 doing the Leaving first time around, then its not so much of a setback. Doing the Leaving takes a bit of maturity that some 16 year old guys might not have.

I'm looking for 400+ for Liberal Arts in UL.It will take a mini miracle to get that kind of score,I'm expecting about 350(got 310 in mocks).

I don't think I will regret repeating-I do regret doing 4th year.If I do have to repeat I'll do it on my own-maybe continue with History and Classics, move up to honours French and get grinds but the chances of going back to school full time are slim.I'd lose my mind.

at the moment i don't think i could repeat. i have a course in mind if i don't get the points for my first few courses and i actually like it. i have absolutely hated school for the past two years and can't wait to be finished..
