Right now I'm thinking yes, it is that bad. There's no two ways about it, it's been really feckin hard the last while. Couple that with the fact that I'm still at the 'writing' out stage and not the 'learning off' bit, it's only going to get harder. I'm finished in less than 3 weeks at this stage...but jesus it's just tough going. I'm not at all sure I'll get everything covered either

    no chance..

i dunno if this is a factor, but i've 3 older brothers/sisters who did it in the last 7 years, so when they we doing it, obviosuly i saw it as a huuuge thing when i was younger.. but now im doing it, its not a big thing at all really!

I'm not doing any writing out. i'm just learnin the main parts from notes or phrases that "would impress any examiner" and then plan to make up stuff as i go along in the exam

Guys, the LC is NEVER as bad as you think it will turn out to be.

This time 2 years ago with a week left, I had done 1 week of solid study and a few weeks of half hearted study. I was nowhere near prepared as I should have been but I felt by relaxing and not killing myself with cramming did me alot of good for getting through it all.

Ok now you're all stressed, nervous, panicking etc. but I absolutely guarantee you that once you get that first English paper over and done with the adrenaline will flow and the tension and anxiety will diminish. Jeez even 5 minutes into the first exam you're flying! (I say this and about 99% of people I know have said this)

Ok if one exam goes awry (usually you do better than you think) you'll roll onto the next and forget the previous. The LC isn't some mega do or die event, it's like any other exam be it the mocks, summer exams, xmas exams... you've been there already and you will get through it.

Thinking about fcuking up does no good. It's easier said than done not to do this but by chilling out and not burning yourself out in the last week with study you will more confident and emotionally prepared to deal with the LC. Eating healthily, drinking lots of water and get a good nights sleep for the next 7 nights are all essential and will help you.

If you've got 6 months of solid study done or 6 hours you'll get through it no matter what. There's still plenty of time for further study and you'll have days off between exams to study for the later ones.

and when it's over the feeling is fcuking amazing! :)

Yeah fair play there Zane you speak alot of sense. Deep down I know it makes sense, but you just can't help feel the panic setting in now.

But yeah I think you're right - it will be okay once it gets started. Life will go on anyway, eh?

    All the best everyone!

I can't tell how bad it is! One minute I don't care about it, just wanting to get it over. The next minute I'm panicking that I won't get the points. I know that if I don't get the points it's not the end of the world, but it feels like that right now.

I can't concentrate on study either. The most I've done in a week is what I've done today, even if that's only a french listenin test, 2 hours of maths and a half hour of english.

    ...

    :(

    No. It's worse :(

It's alright. I'm into the routine of study, and 9am-8pm school days. This weeks study is a bit of a relief, only 9-4 with various breaks (g'bless supervised study though).

    lol.

Well I've after getting into a study routine of half reading over my notes for a half an hour whilst reading the independent and watching the French open.:D

So I'm screwed, and I feel absolutely no nerves despite the exam being a week away.Which is scary when I think about it.

Really, id imagine its a bit of an anti-climax?

I'm the last in my family too so I'm trying to beat 515. I've never ever been nervous for an exam before but I know I will be for next week. Maybe it's because I'm still a long way off being ready, and there's a chance I might not be ready. Haven't done a thing for French yet, for example.

Also, due to personal circumstances I only got back into study in March or so, and whenever I get too stressed out I think of what happened and it puts it all in perspective. I suppose I can only hope to do so well, my expectations from 5th year have been a bit...dashed shall we say. Due to that I suppose, I'm not in the frame of mind that I thought I'd be in

Thats crazy talk! The leaving cert is to get you into the the college place you want to be in whether it be 250 points or 590 points. Try not to look at it as a competition and it will take alot of the weight off you. Break everything down into the amount of work you need to do to achieve the marks per question you need to get to score the points you want and just take each question as it comes. You will be suprised how much crap you can fling out when you get the question and everything comes back .

    lads and lassies..
i pronmise you its not that bad..honestly...
the sigh of relief from you when you see that the stuff you know is on the paper is unreal.
last year i sat it and thought i failed all summer... but i didn even at that i never studied cos i was doing so much sports but still got 540 and now im doing science. (still dont know how i got it)
i also had my mothers sickness to deal with durin the exams so my mind wasn there and had my father sayin if i did pass i would have to move out and get a job.
keep thinking positive, no matter how scared you are...
it will all turn out good in the end..

just sit in the exam, relax, read through it throughly, if you space out or go blank look at a wall or at the windows or somehtin to calm yourself down.. wirte what ya know next to the question on the page... and be sure to do a spider diagram for your ideas in eng..(im fluent in irish and had no clue bout eng and this really helped)

Grimes i dont see it as a competition, its just a big joke for me to try beat my sister, thats not my genuine aim or anything!

i even had my borther go "yeah.. i tried to beat her.. left it a bit late tho.. 15 points short... damn her... but now, its up to you little sister..."

cmon, it livens it up a bit!

for anyone with parents sick, or anything like that, i wish you all the luck i can. im sure you dont want my sympathy, but im sure for me, it would be a very different story if i had other stuff to deal with.

    good luck guys :)

    ah it's not that bad!

Yes ,the the run up to the exams can be a bit crap and tedious, but once you step into English P1, its over in a flash.

When i did it last year, instead of cramming more as the exams came closer, i was so sick of studying at that stage that i did the opposite and just relaxed which seemed to help. I really thought i had failed Chemistry and because of paper one in Maths, was fairly confident i had done useless in that to, but it all worked out in the end. You will do better than you think nomatter how bad/good they go.

leaving cert.... i knew i forgot something

For 5th and 6th I basically slept in class with one eye open. Now i'm just running over everything just refreshing it all.

All i need is around 210/240, so I don't really have that much pressure on me. When im finished studying, I tend to do everything possible to forget about the LC. No point in being miserable on the run-up to the exams.

Yeah, Its a big hurdle, But just another one in life.

for me, i finished when i finished in school a couple of weeks ago. i mean come on......

no more homework, no more listening to stuff youve no interest in, no more going to lockers, no more projects, no more talking to people you dont want to talk to but talk to them anyway cuz u have to.....

it's all over. i dont miss it. the leaving cert is just a formality, just like signing on the dotted line to say you're officially resigning from school.

whatever you got in the pre's, add on about 50 points minimum and thats what you'll get in august. statistically, people go up 15% in every subject from the pre's.
