Can anyone tell me how I can write as Gaeilge in MS Word without the spell checker going crazy?

Is there an Irish dictionary I can install which will allow me to spell check Irish writing??

    Thanks!

If you set the language for the document -> Edit -> Select All and then Tools -> Language -> Set Language -> (choose appropriate language), then Word will not attempt to Spell/Grammar-check it unless it has the tools for that language installed. If you are using Office XP (that's the 2002 version), then you can download an official spellchecker here:

If you follow this link and download and install the Language pack you will have the the menus and other pasrt of MS Word as Gaelige.

    http://www.microsoft.com/ireland/gaeilge/

Irish speakers are now able to use Windows XP and Office 2003 in Irish.

In response to huge interest, and in support of Microsoft’s 20 years of investment in Ireland, we have worked with Foras Na Gaeilge and our localisation partners to develop two new Irish Language Interface Packs for Windows XP and Office System 2003. The LIPs are free to download and they enable Irish speakers to work more easily in their chosen language whether at home, in business or education.

We hope they will also help promote the use of the Irish language and make it more accessible to computer users around the world.

I use MS Office 2003 and when I install the LIP.exe file from that link, it gives me the error "the language pack of this installation pack is not supported by your system"

Then it closes. Im using Windows XP SP2.

    Hi Trotter,
In order to remedy this you need to install the following update to the Windows XP operating system http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3fa7cdd1-506b-4ca0-bd47-b338e337a527&displaylang=en .Bascially this update adds the Irish locale to Windows and allows you to install the Office 2003 Irish LIP.
    Regards, MS Paddy.
