Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do you need to add or replace.

ATA will work happy out if you have a spare connection. If you have nerver used sata you will need a SATA cable and a SATA power connector (or molex to sata convertor) to run a SATA drive.

Go ATA133 and you should be fine.

Is this a Dell machine or other manufacturer?

Play it safe and go ATA.. i am not familiar if they have SATA or not. How many hard disks are installed. Most machines have only 2 ide ports on the motherboard which allows 4 ide devices (the ATA interface)

If you have say 2 hard disks (phyical) and 2 dvd/cd you might not be able to add more without another ide card or similar

i only have 1 hard drive at the moment.

    I have 2 DVD drives..

But there is room for another Hard Drive.

I will buy a 200GB ATA drive,, if it doesnt work i'll sell it

    thanks for the info.

Bigger is better.. especially with the larger drives. Take the 16Meg ..

Thats cache which buffers input to the hard disk

Your mobo hasnt got SATA support according to:

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/chipsets/display/20030701161103.html

So your right to play it safe with PATA.

For Drives of ~300Gb the 16MB vs 8MB comparison makes no difference....believe me I have four 300GB humming away next to me....but for those 750GB Seagates...it would certainly make a difference!

It does matter you need to check your manual or check with the PC Supplier for full details. If your adding a hard disk what the max GB disk size the pc will cater for, buying an external hard drive it is the simpest solution in my opinion. Hope that is of help to you
