Eircom state that is you have a monitored alarm system and get broadband installed they recommend an eircom technician to call out and modify the alarm. Anyone know if this is necessary.......its €100 if you have your alarm with a company other than eircom phonewatch....

Maybe they're charging you EUR100 to have a look and tell you that any problems you have with the broadband aren't your fault. ;)

I've used broadband on phone lines where the alarm system was directly hooked to the line, without an in-line microfilter or anything, and have never had any problems. This includes a new alarm installation where the alarm control box is wired in series with the main line (so that it can commandeer the phone line if it needs to dial out).

[There used to be a Sticky in the Broadband forum on how to organise the phone line wiring so that a monitored alarm doesn't interfere with its broadband capabilities.... now where has that gone to??]

****A SPLITTER/FILTER IS *NOT* REQUIRED ON A BROADBAND LINE, IF YOU HAVE A MONITORED ALARM*****
The broadband will make NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER to your alarm.
You need a filter for VOICE communication only.
    Your alarm sends DIGITAL.
You do not need a filter.
In how many posts does this have to be said.
    Sorry if I offend anyone.
You do NOT need a filter.
Try broadband and see if you don't believe.
You do not need a filter.
You do not need a splitter.
You do not need to pay PHONEWATCH or anyone else to do anything with your alarm.
YOU DO NOT NEED A FILTER.
    Please cut and paste everywhere.
Sorry for ranting & raving but there are so many posts with the same question...
You do not need a filter....

Do you need a filter? :D

But seriously thank you for telling us this. I hate when big companies overcharge for ridiculous things like this, trying to make money at every turn.

Its a neat eircom trick to get people to pay €100 for an unneccary 20 mins callout thats all . BB would interfere with an analogue alarm
