I need some advice on installing a stereo in a 2001 Volvo S40. If anyone has experience of these could they reply. I read somewhere that they are a lot more complicated than the average install, something to do with the wiring going through the main ECU?
I bought this on ebay and am wondering what I need to install it:

I think this is the required adapter but they dont ship outside US and cant find another one.

Would it be safe to just cut off all plugs and match up wires? I did this before on a different car.

    What about this?

    http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1647.html

converts the volvo radio harness to a standard ISO plug. The big question is - does the radio you bought have a standard ISO connection????? its from autoleads - a well known company. Maybe you can get it cheaper elsewhere but the code will be the same.

and also if your system is the amplified version or not. This is not suitable for amplified system!

Plus you want to make sure before you do anything that the radio/dvd you bought fits!!! (try it before buying the lead - just make sure if you plug out any cable that you have the radio code handy- you will need it if you plug out and plug back in the original radio)

    Not sure about the ECU.
    Doesnt say anything on www.autoleads.co.uk
