    Just wondering..

As a non permanent teacher I dont get paid for the summers so I'm thinking of doing something else in Waterford for 6 weeks or so in July/Early August just to keep the funds coming in and the boredom at bay.

Does anyone do something similar already? Im just thinking of ideas really. Summer camps etc would be cool, but I'd say they've got their staff sorted already.

Im not sure I'd be any use in an office! I HATE answering phones :)

    Any ideas?

Surely you could get a gig teaching English as a foreign language , or else you could actually go on holiday ! Thats what most people do when they get time off

Most of the language schools seem to full at this stage. I had a TEFL job sorted but it fell through.

I'd love to go on holidays! But.. as a non fulltime teacher I dont get paid for the summer. 2 weeks somewhere sunny in August is as much as I'll get.. probably a week!

There goes the myth of teachers being on great money ! I always thought they got paid as normal during the summer months but thats obviously only the full time ones , what about the summer camps that are going on all around the place in the summer , you would surely fit the bill for supervising one of those

There's always the option of losing your personal goals and ambitions; becoming very lazy and signing on the dole - Immediately followed up by spending this newly found cash in your nearest watering hole. It seems it's very common here.. Worth a shot!

For non fulltimers its a myth, but a couple of summers of poverty is worth it when you get qualified and appointed fulltime. Im trying to keep my eyes on the prize! :D

I've emailed around a few of the summer camps so hopefully they'll get back to me. The trouble is, most of them have their staff already and I didnt go looking for summer work in March/April because I had a job set up already. When that fell through last week it put a right spanner in the works.

Well it is World Cup year.. It could be an option I suppose! It'd do nothing for your self esteem though lol Imagine walking into one of the early pubs on the quay, seeing this fella face down on the bar and thinking.. " teachers  "

lol.. Seriously though, I wont die of starvation if nothing comes up, but for the oul self worth it'd be nice to have something constructive to do for a few weeks.

Otherwise I'll kick into fulltime study mode and spend the summer working on my college grades. No money in that though!

It'd be good craic to try one but the fun would be gone out of it in a few mins and then I'd have to have a sit down.
