The storn hit Greystones @ 17.45 yesterday with very heavy rain followed by the first of the fork lightning @ 18.00. It lasted for about 45 minutes in total, but in that time there was some fireworks display!:D

Thursday should see the "thorms" breaking out...

A LP pressure moving up from the south over wedensday night might see us getting more home grown storms through thursday too before a frontal band of thundery rain pushes eastwards. This might be a classic case of a line squall breaking out on thursday, which is a line of Storms running along the cold front.Air will be clear ahead of the front so impressive looking Cumulonimbus (CB) will be observed.

Looking at the charts again, maybe we should keep our eyes on Wednesday night. Definate potential there.

Think the SW will be affected first, then breaking out almost anywhere as pressure dipps and instability rises

Look like a trough of thunderstorms moving up from Biscay on Wednesday. As you say Southwest effected first and moving north Wednesday night, early Thursday morning......

Were still on for some BIG storms however not clear whether the East will escape yet. It might. Further west the action starts later Wednesday:)

Potential on Thursday for remaining areas to be affected.

Oh I think all areas will get them not excluding the East.
In fact the whole set up is one of the most classic prolific wild locally violent thunderstorm creators that I've seen.

    I'm expecting some whoppers here.

I think a lot of home grown TS alright almost anywhere.
Maybe see electrical storms too,now there is a thought.

A potential July 25/26 1985 looms me thinks - a thundery trough collides with a cold front over the mid west on Wednesday night... BANG BOOM!

Oh yes, like the storms that you get in spain or over the plains of European countries/worldwide in landlocked locations.
Its just constant intracloud strikes can have rainfall or not with the odd cloud to ground strike.Amazing lightning show with lightning rippling through the clouds, now there is a lot of static in the air with cloud tops right up into the statosphere 7/8 miles up.
Rarely happens here but last one back in 2000 when they came right up from biscay, there was alot of rain assocciated with that one though.Constant sheet lightning maybe 20/per min.

Thunderstorms that we get are usually light in comparison with our neighbours the UK.Either light, moderate, strong or violent which is classified on the amount of strikes per min.

Better be up in the early hours of Thursday morning, just shortly after midnight. Looks like it kicks off for the East:)

I will of course be up. It looks to me between 00z and 06z Thursday is when the sky explodes in the East. Further West it will be Wednesday evening. Expect some huge cells in the West and South before nightfall Wednesday evening........

Theres quite a little train of ac drifting up over the Irish sea at the moment, a very good sign that the athmosphere is readying itself for thunder within the next 36 hrs or so.

The barometer is falling fairly fast now by the way.

1019mb here and down by 0.9mb/hr.

Thats on the periphary of the high pressure the altocumuls which is a sign of the pressure starting to fall to the w,sw,and south of the region.
