Looks like you were right. Just checked the Isle of Wight lightning detector and Blitzortung sites there and it looks like our friends across the pond are getting a right hammering at the moment. I'm no weather expert but it looks like it all developed in Biscay and moved north, as you said. Looks to me as if there are lines of storms developing down in Biscay and moving northwards so, who knows, some of that might find it's way towards us before the day is out.

None of those storms are coming here they are heading due north and not northwest.
The storms over Britain are being generated by the local heat and humidity, none of which we have at the moment.

You may wait untill this time next week for another chance at this.

Between 3 and 5am the serferics went nuts right across southern Ireland. May have been an error but ive no doubt some places did get thunder and lightning last night.

This week looking good for storms:

The south and midlands of the UK must be having one hell of a lightening show, anyone check out the lightening radar lately?

Although many places are expected to remain dry, isolated severe thunderstorms are expected to break out this afternoon. Rainfall totals of 30mm or more may fall in a short space of time bringing localised flash flooding. Large, perhaps damaging hail and very gusty winds are also likely to accompany these storms and bring significant danger for drivers. The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the "Highways Agency" for further advice on travel disruption on motorways and trunk roads.

Umm thats what the UK Met office have the east midlands in the UK.

That'll be all the recent BBQ'ed food you've been eating. Vary your diet. Eat BBQ steak and BBQ chicken on alternate days :)

Thunderstorms likely from Thursday/Friday onwards as very warm, possibly hot plume comes north right through at least to the start of next week. :D

Indeed, I wonder if anything is happening in the southern midlands right now.

I wouldnt rule out an isolated storm before Saturday but IMO its unlikely. Saturday night onward the real risk begins as temperatures rise along with humidity. The risk then extends till Wednesday or Thursday of next week. Initially the south east is most at risk from Biscay imports however as the winds go easterly and the temps increase the midlands, east and north look odds on for lively activity (very warm sunshine too btw). The east should do well IMO as we import activity from Wales and England and inland convection will be very good for the midlands and north:)

    This is a great chart:

Still looks great for storms next week, some areas are likely to get some vicious storms. The East may do well aswell with imports from England/Wales.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,033 ✭✭✭Snowbie

I think importing is the only way here,as instability will enhance shower activity over Irish sea, that is on the East coast.
Generating of storms looks likely inland.

Thunderstorm potential stilll begins later on Sunday when the first crop should develope. The Southeast most at risk as temps get up to 23 or 24C.

In to the start of next week the risk becomes much greater and the Midlands and East look most at risk as the temperatures and humidity sore up to 29C in some parts. Gonna be very humid indeed and the cape will be playing ball this time so a good chance many of us will see a rumble or two. The hot weather will end next Thursday......though apparently never cooling down too much.....

First T-storms should arrive in the southeast in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Tomorr ow could be very lively for the East and midlands. Have those Seferic detectors at the ready:D

    Oh I'd agree.

Even now, though nothing is going to happen before tomorrow, the clouds in the sky here are well carved up.The signs of instability are begining to show high up in the Eastern sky.

Well hopefully Earthman, as ever though some places will miss out..... That said we have a decent chance of a rumble or two tomorrow.:)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 8,632 ✭✭✭darkman2

In fact just as I say that the storms have already developed in the bay of Biscay and are beginning the journey north:D Some fireworks for the South and Southeast later tonight...
