For land generated storms was a never today, not much convection out there to spawn TS,but the sea air is more unstable than the air over land and is producing several storms over the celtic sea.

Now they are a long way off but they seem to be moderate in strenght and moving towards the cental Irish sea.

If it keeps it intensity they mightjust shave th east coast. They could die out though...

The storms over England have died down but the Cltic is still spawning, its a case of how far North they get.

Seen a nice anvil off the coast here DM2 in a clearing slot.Very flat alright.

I've been keeping an eye on the IOW detector and it looks as if the strikes decrease rapidly as they move north, is this usually the case??

They will always tend to go Northeast because thats the direction of the jet stream atm, hence why we actually have a northerly today yet the showers are moving north:)
    Indeed:

We've had some sunshine down here in a mostly cloudy sky all afternoon so have been able to see those anvils and cb's through the day.
I even saw a mini rainbow high up in the sky surrounding one of them this evening-obviously theres some precip there not making the ground.

Continental out there this evening, still 20c.

As for the IOW detector, its coverage is bad in the Irish sea

Can confirm thunderstorm around Clara area in the last hour.
Not severe- around 1 strike per 4 minutes with moderate rain-

Appears to be moving Northeastward, nothing heard for the last 10 minutes.

Scratch that- another big flash of lightning to my east- about 12 seconds away

Stopped raining here 5 mins ago. A small and brief shower, but the ground is completely wet. No thunder.

Could be- its cleared up a bit now- v dark to the south and southwest, but much brighter to the northwest.

Didn't expect to get this one actually- although they were 'forecast'

    some home grown convection there.

Meanwhile I notice the ever so stationary storms in the celtic sea have merged into a line now rather than individual clumps.
Theres no sign of them weakening yet.
We might see them around 4 to 7am...

yeah i picked that strike up in offaly alright nothing special though, spose its one more strike than i had.

Them cells are huge in celtic and appear to be moving nowhere fast but a cental Irish sea is on the cards.

Another rumble away to the east- Kilbeggan Co Westmeath area I guess.

So we had about an hour and a half with about a dozen or so strikes.

First storms since those mid May memorable ones.

OK looks like heavy shower came outa nowhere off wexford coast hitting rosslare at the mo,optimism is growing and confidence level soaring that the east will be hit sometime around midnight(dublin area that is)hopefully electric.:D

What a shame, would of been a great storm. No chance of it hitting us, its completely off course heading toward Northern Wales. Thats how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

That shower is related to the main cell or should I say multi cell
