Sound Cellar and Sentinel without a doubt.

Definitly Soundcellar, they have a wider selection than Sentinal, and LOADS of rare stuff on Vinyl. although they are a but pricey, mind you i havent bought anything there for a long time

Has to be the Soundcellar. Sentinal is good too, but as MF said it doesn't have the selection that the Soundcellar has.

    Sound Cellar for range
Sentinel cause they are new good guys

But shock horror - HMV occasionaly have mainstream rock/metal for decent prices. And Tower Records occasionally have the odd gem hidden

    Its all about shopping around

I often just leave it at browsing HMV and Tower, since you tend to find the cheap gems there. If I'm looking for something specific, Soundcellar probably. Sentinel just don't have the same cool stuff. :p

Sentinel sucks. I was in there yesterday and they had **** all. As usual. Sound Cellar is great and the metal section in Tower can be really good for finding unusual and limited items.

To be fair, I've often found some gems in Sentinel.

In all the times I've been in, I'm yet to find anything worth buying. They seem to get everything in really late so anything good is already long purchased.

i'm with you. they have feck all, and all of their cd's look second hand (despite the price tag)... i've been in there a good few times and have yet to buy anything.

and don't discount tower here, their metal section is quite good... but their industrial section is top class (primarily because not even sound cellar stocks some of that stuff)

The Soundcellar may have more stock, but that's basically the only advantage they have over Sentinel. Seriously. They have loads of rare vinyl, eh? Sorry, but I've never seen any. Sentinel actually order in a lot of stock, but some of it is usually picked up instantly by the regular customers, i.e. the people who (along with Ticketmaster) keep them open. Their CD's don't cost half as much as the Soundcellar either. They also sell a lot of underground Metal, e.g. Baltic, Greek, etc. I can't fault the guys.

Tower has a decent selection. Nothing to get excited over, mind you. The Industrial / Neo-folk section is great but very expensive for the most part. Borderline have a surprising selection of Metal on vinyl.

As Ph3n0m said, just shop around. I could have paid €28 for Grand Magus' newest album in HMV. I picked it up for a tenner in some pokey little shop off Tower Records.

Sound cellar, sentinal and the odd HMV now and again.

I love that Industrial section. Barring a couple of specialist shops in London it's the best industrial section I've ever come across in a record store. I agree that some of the stuff is very expensive (Current 93 and Death In June in particular) but most of it is fairly priced and when you're looking at buying a release that's stupidly limited that they've gotten in, **** it.

    hmmm - tough one

tower is excellent, i always spend too much money in there and they actually stock jandek cds.

sentinal - nice place and sound fellas in there as well.get the impression they would order anything you wanted

the weird one is soundcellar thou.i like it alot , yet i dont.
people always say your man inside is sound but whenever i have been there he has been a prick to most customers (not me by the way).
i remember a fella in there asking about a tool album with a pig on the back cover.i knew he was on about undertow.the fella in soundcellar tried to sell him a perfect circle album 13th step saying it was the album he wanted but with limited edition art work.the customer left the shop cus he wasnt sure if he wanted it or not.
i was too scared to say anything cus i find the staff quite intimidating in there.
all that said they have savage cds and are great for tickets as well

It's moved around the corner, it's now in the basement under the clothes shop Flip.

Well as I said, i havnt been in there in a LONG time. But last time i was in there looking through the vinyls i found a hell of a lot of albums id never seen for sale in any shop, on tape, vinyl or CD. They had every one of Ace Frehely's solo albums and many others which i still havnt seen anywhere to this day.

Soundcellar for me, but i like sentinel for its merchandise and irish section, also good ole hmv and tower are worth a look sometimes.
