I came across them a few months ago, but I havent met anybody who knows them yet. And I think they're frippin brilliant. I'd describe their style as a mix of Moby, Air and Mike Oldfield... kind of classical synthisised stuff with haunting vocals (in Icelandic I think!). I'd really recommend checking them out.

You can watch one of their videos "glósóli" here (legally)... It's got a great orgasmic (so to speak) ending.

This is linked from their home page... http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/

Some other good songs are "Gong" and "Saeglopur" from their album "Takk".

Amazing amazing band. I'd rate their albums Agaetis Byrjun and Takk to be their best works.

It's Agaetis Byrjún and ( ) for me. Takk didn't do much for me at all. Good enough live but I don't listen to it at all. On the other hand my copies of the other two albums are starting to sound a bit worn out (I've them on vinyl) so I'm thinking of buying another copy of each of them.

They pack the venues they play here. First show was in 2000 (1999?) supporting Godspeed You Black Emperor in the Music Centre. Best gig in Dublin was the Temple Theatre show as far as i'm concerned.

They're playing Oxegen this year, Sunday I believe.

They are simply terrific live. Saw them a few weeks back, one of the best gigs I've been to. But don't expect a quiet night!!
Support on the night was from another Icelandic band Amiina, they play most of the strings on Sigur Ros tracks...

They've gotten way too big on the back of their new album which is a bit ****ty. When the masses start to like something you can be sure its not for good reasons. Oh well. Off now to find another group that are too cool and difficult for the rest of the world.
