Here - what's the story, NTL?

Someone told me that NTL Cable is routed through the UK and back to Ireland. Is that true? I wouldn't put it past them, since in UT2k4 I'm pinging 100 to any of the Unreal.ie servers, yet pinging 24-28 to servers in the uk, even 34 to the flippin netherlands. What the hell is the story?

Anything I can do about this? :(

Hi,
Tracing route to unreal.ie [193.120.123.142]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms duff.unreal.ie [193.120.123.142]
2 9 ms 8 ms 9 ms 10.189.28.1
3 12 ms 17 ms 10 ms dbln-cam-1b-ge03-103.inet.ntl.com [82.9.147.25]

4 10 ms 8 ms 11 ms dbln-t2core-b-ge-210-0.inet.ntl.com [82.9.145.12
9]
5 8 ms 12 ms 9 ms dbln-bb-b-ae1-0.inet.ntl.com [213.105.174.57]
6 16 ms 220 ms 18 ms inex-ic-1-pos000.inet.ntl.com [213.105.174.94]
7 82 ms 51 ms 57 ms fe0-0.br001.inex.esat.net [193.242.111.17]
8 73 ms 50 ms 58 ms pos2-3.core002.cwt.esat.net [193.95.131.5]
9 58 ms 77 ms 57 ms vlan2.rt001.cwt.esat-x.com [193.95.129.3]
10 53 ms 55 ms 53 ms vlan57.rt508.cwt.esat.net [193.95.132.26]
11 52 ms 51 ms 62 ms duff.unreal.ie [193.120.123.142]

Trace complete.

ignore the first hop it's just my router being stupid

While NTL doesn't route all your traffic through the UK (it peers with INEX), it's inex link seems to be a bit iffy lately which is causing alot of irish sites to have rediculously high pings. :) (including the one CS server I regularly play on :( )

It's likely that they're planning to change their routes to go through the INEX after having being sold to another company.
