Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So your complaining because you can't play a few games? Poor you.
What exactly is so "awful" about it, or is that just a general complaint that appears to be popular?

Windows is great, but I don't have to back up my argument with logical reasoning!

whats so aweful about clicking "next" all the time :D
    I Accept / Next / OK / Continue / Finish / Next / OK

    Have a look at
    http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Next
Next> is that button software developers make you press repeatenedly in installation wizards. This is because they want you to see as many mentions of the program's name as possible before you have a chance to use it. It also does an amazingly good job in annoying the user, which is the primary function of all commercial software.

One of the worst things has got to be licensing.
The registry and "dll hell" also hurt.

The worst thing IMHO is the way it holds on to borked settings when something goes wrong, uninstalling and reinstalling fails far, far too often because of little pieces of crap hidden all over the place.

or is Deaddude is *full of awe* ?

That's like going on to a star trek forum and posting "star trek sucks". Unlikely to get a good reception.

    "Windows is awful"
So is any OS if you dont know how to use it.

For the standard home user-asking them to come to terms with Linux and all that goes with it-including the install is a tough one.
Linux has just as many finicky issues as windows and just as many pros and cons. The major pro for windows is that it is supported by the majority of hardware and software vendors. Linux can also be somwhat of a resouce hog if it is configured incorrectly.

You have to give it some credit.

    A. It works
    B. Is actually stable
    C. Games play on it when you buy hardware needed for the game
    D. My mum can use it (that’s an achievement for a technophobe)
    E. Excellent hardware support.
    F. Takes less maintanance each generation (ME doesnt count it was crap)

Not to self change name on next button and make name bigger :D

    It has issues

    A. Two tons of legacy support (i blame the banking sectors win 3.11 stuff)
    B. A few security/design issues which you can’t say there not improving on the vista betas have some nice anti-overflow tweaks
    C. I will admit the registry is absolutely fooked.
    D. A browser integrated into the shell (no no nooooooo)

    E. The Licensing pain in ass. Server/enterprise/datacenter/home/pro + terminal server + exchange + SqlServer.

Theres some big acheavements for something that runs on an overgrown calculator.:D

I do prefer linux personally but teaching an average user is kinda painfull both for them and me.

    Server/enterprise/datacenter/home/pro/mce/lite
    OEM/retail/Volume/version upgrade/competitive upgrade/software assurance
    and CALs per device/person/processor

And the cost of adding one extra license to SBS when you've hit the limit and have to buy the products separately

Christ almighty. Not another "zomg windose is teh awful" thread.

Windows is not awful, nor is it great. Linux is not the saviour of mankind, windows is not the antichrist. They're just different OS's. If you don't like windows, don't use it. That games excuse is bull****. Get Cedega if you want to play your precious games. There are plenty of options for playing games on other OS's, if you can't be arsed looking for them, then you deserve to be 'stuck with windows '.

ffs excuse me I'm not in a great mood today. Had to vent something.

I think it's brilliant! (So is Linux, but we're looking at Windows here.) When you consider

    a) The millions of different hardware configurations it has to work with

    b) The millions of different software environments it can manage

    c) That you don't have to be a programmer to use it. (Or abuse it!)

Seriously, if you think about it, it is an amazing achievement.
