Yeah I got 62.96% and 10 and I got -3294 for heats of reaction.
I didn't really know the colour change in q10 either but I also said purple to colourless!

Did anyone else get 11.7 for the pH in q4 and 91.3% mass of carbon in methylbenzene? Definately weirdly phrased questions!

Yay, I got that exact answer for the heat and the water of crystalisation :D
I also got 11.7(11.69) for the pH :D

Would someone got through the methylbenzene calc. I got 90.3%, ye all seem to have got 91.3%.

For the activation energy I said that the fact that increased temperature means they collide with greater speed was more important
because if they don't collide fast enough there'll be no reaction no matter how many times they collide.

I waffled so much on that. For the rate of reaction thing, instead of just saying the page had an X on it, I did another drawing of a square with a big X and wrote below "page from above".

I Knew it began with a c william crookes!im so annoyed I knew it was him ****! lovely paper wish i was more prepared If I had worked that bit harder it would of been an A1 not B1 oh well! FINITO!!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

just read in another post it wasa JJ THOMPSON!YES SOOOOO GLAD I WROTE THAT!WOOOOOO

    Yeah, I got 0.03 and 2.22g.

I don't remember what I got offhand but it sounds like you might've forgotten that since the CH3 was bonded to the benzene, the benzene only had five hydrogens.

    methyl benzene c6h5ch3

find Mr and then find the percent of Carbon out of that, its 84/92 x100 = 91.3%

    Anhydrous Na2 Co3

    Conjugate acid= H30+
    Conjugate Base= OH-

MTBE= Methyl Tetra Butyl Ether, used to increase octance number of a fuel

    yeah i got that too

anhydrous Na2CO3 cant work can it?? becasue ya cant get it in a primary standard???:o
    Naoh was my bet

Anhydrous Na2CO3 is indeed a primary standard. Only thing is I don't know whether it's a valid answer...

On the whole though that was one sexual paper.

Nope, sorry. Looking at my book right at this very minute...
Anhydrous sodium carbonate IS a primary standard. NaOH isn't at all...

it is a valid answer. i did a mock this morning and it had that exact question on it! and they gave anhydrous na2co3 as the ans

It is a valid answer as the question contains HYDRATED sodium carbonate crystals. They were just checking if ya knew the difference...

    hence the meek face...
damm it, you could of at least humored me..... :0

it was .. *he he* orgasmic.

why do i always get things... the wrong way around.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 51 ✭✭irishguy00

That was such an easy exam..

I did every question except for question 5. Ugghhhh.

I also got the exact same maths answers for the mathematical questions so that a good sign....

Overall very happy considering what could have come up.

    WHOOOO. free now.

Jesus, what am i going to study now? might take a look at the cornflakes box...

    Yes it's thompson, i think.

I wasn't too dying about the 1st experiment but thought that the rest of the aper was lovely. I got 60-something for the percentage and 10 for x too (je ne sais pas).

    A few questions...
What is "the general principle of all colorimetry experiments"?
What did everyone get for the heat of combustion one? I got something in the 3000 bracket but i don't think it's right.
and What was the colour change in the MnO4 and I equation in q10? I siad purple to colourless, but again i don't know.

The principle is that the intensity of the colour observed is in direct proportionate to the concentration of free chlorine. (basically the pinker it is, the more free chlorine there is)

Happy days! I need this to be an A1 so "every little helps" as the tesco people say.

Well you could study for my Latin and Construction exams for me...

A fine paper all 'round. Couldn't fault it, although I've no doubt in my mind that Chemistry is the hardest of the three sciences. Here's hoping for an A1!

    ... NaOH isn't a primary standard, is it? :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 182 ✭✭Brods

fraid not ian, NaOH is deliquescent... good luck with your a1.. BAH!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

Forgot about Benzene being missing a H because of the CH3 group :(
Didn't really have a clue about the chlorine experiment but had to answer it because i knew even less about soap.
Other than that no complaints really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 41 DiscoMouse

Bollocks altogether. I swear that's all I got wrong =P

It din't seem valid to stick in Na2CO3 when it was in the question...

  • Registered Users Posts: 182 ✭✭Brods

Just one of the sh¦tty little gay questions they asked...(see methyl benzene q, and all the "give 2 reasons for..." sh¦te qs for more)

THEY DONT USUALLY DO THIS TO ME!! why now? why cudnt this one just be like it was supposed to be...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

It was a pretty nice paper.. hadn't studied the experiments that came up but I'm good at lying through my teeth so I think they went alright..

did 1,3,4,5,6,7,9,10(a,b,c),11(a,b). Had an hour and a half left then and I considered doing 2 and 8 but I knew they wouldn't be answered as well as the rest, didn't know them, so I didn't bother. Spent the last while just doing nothing.

Questions 4,5,6 and 7 were lovely. Quite liked 10 and 11. 9 was grand except I forgot the evidence bit, but I had half an idea which I waffled about!! So basically the experiments were where I messed up a little. Hoping I got an A, I really need it..

    did, 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10(b+c), 11(b+c) ... i think...

Wasn't too bad, few really dodgey bits, Sections A was killer for me, didn't do soap, but remembered most of it from actually doing it and doing previous questions, water of crystalisation, was pretty grand, but the other one I didn't even know about till 5mins before the exam!

    The Organic's were lovely!

the paper wud have been ok if i had actually studied and had been in any way prepared! i thought the qs asked on the soap expt were really strange and rather ****ty...
    dammit i said crookes!
    but i got 62.something% and X=10 alright
and yeh i said purple-colourless for that q.
