Anyone know if there's any truth in these? Heard someone in school saying that this year the LC students is a much smaller number in Ireland as a whole and as a result the points will all be dropped slightly?

It really depends on the course you're going for, but yeah that's apparently true.

Ya there are less doing the leaving this year

    2005- 56000 approx
    2006- 54000 approx

Only aboput 2000 less but on the otherhand there are more courses than ever this year (degrees, diplomas, certs, plcs etc.) which generally gives the idea that points for some courses will drop SLIGHTLY.

CAO announced recently however tha applications for some science courses have actually gone up or stayed the same.

If your applying to a course that has traditionally had high points then dont expect them to go down.

It's all about supply and demand.

The course I did dropped like a rock in points the last few years cos no-one wants to do it. Other courses are in huge demand and so the points have increased.

For the south-side colleges I have a decent idea through my family

UCD will be going up generally - Horizons programme is partly responsible. Arts will go up about 10pts

Trinity will drop slightly, barring BESS which will definitely go up 15- 20pts

    DIT will stay the same

    Who cares about DCU?

Even if there are significant drops in CAO applications for unpopular courses, colleges will make classes smaller to keep the points up. It's not widely advertised but it's what happens.

Well of course the points will drop. There's less people, it's the applicants who decide the points of a course. If the course is in huge demand, points have to go up higher because of the amount of people etc.

don't forget about our friends up north :)

€4000 per year up front in ucas system, that'll send them flocking down here and also deter our southern one's from going up north or to england.

how would you fancy a €12000 debt coming out of college? :D

yep, ucas refugees... and dammit, im going for science....

as said... more courses will drive em down a wee bit.
hopefully that will balance em out ... some what for me!

Starting in a few months, the University of Cork is doing my course. I have no intention of going to Cork but it's existence will drop points for the same course in UCD.
