And if so, do you have any pics worth posting? I can only imagine how awesome it would have been to be there.

To right it had a lot of followers.I (very stupidly) decided to go to Rathmullan for a drive on Sunday, and got stuck for an hour in Letterkenny on way back. But I can say for once in my life I saw the Donegal rally.
Hope any one there had fun, and didnt get to wet.

I'm glad I didn't see any of it.

I really really hate to see it coming, since one of my friends was killed at it along with his friend from Uni, on his birthday, at the rally while being a steward.

    RIP George, you're still missed.

    :(

Didn't actually see any of the Rally itself but have to say the crowds were bigger than ever and this seems to be one of the best behaved ever also.

    Long may it continue.

Its great for the economy and if the WRC does come it will do wonders for Donegal Tourism, not to mention getting the county onto a decent Playstation Game....

    Ahhh, ok.

This is going to sound sad (revealing my age), but I remember L'Kenny back in the 70's when the whole town was like 2-3 blocks long. When I went back a few years ago, I couldn't believe how large the town got. Wow!!!

    Same with Galway.

The last time I was at the rally was 1997, a mate of mine asked me and one of the lads to be marshals with the promise of plenty of rally action so we got up at 5am to make our way to Inishowen. I was put in the middle of nowhere (near Fanad I think) to stand by a gate to stop people going on the road, meet 2 people the whole day, got £20 for my troubles never again!!!!

Really? Has it grown that much in the past 6 years?

Ok, slightly back on topic, do they have smaller rallies in Donegal, or neighboring counties, throughout the year?

These South Donegal people. They come through the gap and get totally disorientated.

I avoided the rally and went driving instead. Though I went to the Carrick-a-mede rope bridge and Giants Causeway, both of which were rather erm, dull :)

i went to the giants causeway and carrick-a-rede years ago,
and it would have been great, except i was on crutches :(

that walk to the bridge was a killer

Eeek! The walk to the bridge is bad enough as is, never mind on crutches! That would be hell!

Not sure what you mean by that. The Donegal Rally only once had a Fatal Accident, and that is regrettable, and was an accident.

On the whole rallying is a sport. Idiotic followers cannot be blamed on the rally or its organisers. Those twin cams etc are somewhere else for every other weekend of the year. At least when they congregate the Guards have some hope of watching them.

Maybe we should ban football cos theres houligans, Concerts cos people have being killed moshing, the Olympics cos theres a threat of terorism, ya know.

The Donegal Rally bring lots of sensible people too who totally abhor the lunatics.

When the WRC does come, it will show Donegal off well to a world wide audience.

For the record there was no-one killed on Rally weekend but three unfortunate accidents claimed lives on either side of the weekend.... none are related to the Rally.

There were more arrests on St Patricks Day than the whole of Rally Weekend.

And lets face it there will never be a world golf tournament here!

Tourism is the only indigenous industry we have here!

South Donegal? U mean there is something north of the Gap? Golly! :p
Tourism is the only indigenous industry we have here!
And if we're not careful we'll put an end to that too!
