If it was original it might be but generally any thing a boyracer has got his hands on is usually thrashed to death.Q: Why do you think there are so many souped up boyracermobiles for sale on the side of the roads? A: Because garages won't trade them in because of the DIY modifications.

Personally I would not part with €3k on a 14 year old Golf GTi with 182k miles on the clock. I think that is about a grand too much for that car. It looks like the owner is looking for the money back on his modifications to me.

I would go over to the UK and pick up a mint condition similar car for probably less money or even the better Corrado.

genuine reason for reluctant sale. price reduced (again).

Oh dear. Barryboy mods add NO value to a car!

I can never understand the economics of spending thousands modifying a car, when you could just go and buy a decent one to begin with. At least you've a better chance of recouping some/most of what you spend.

As someone said earlier... it's still a 14 year old Golf. €3k is too much.

Car must have some history behind it at that price or else there's a superfluous 0.

The OPs car would probably be worth that un-modded although there's no visible modding done. Modding just narrows the market you can sell to.

I wouldn't agree that so called "Barryboys" drive the **** out of their modde cars. A few friends have modded their cars and wouldn't dream of driving them hard after the money they poured into them

Sometimes the mods aren't available as factory options, so you have to do them after-market. Also, you may only have the cash to do it a while after you buy the car. And, sometimes it's fun to work on your car!

if you want a mk2 golf gti have a look over on vagdrivers.net

plenty of irish fans of tasteful oem modding, alas plenty of dipsticks with fibreglass tat on our roads

    182,000 miles / 292,901 kilometers

GTI or no GTI, modded or not modded ...that yoke has pretty much reached the end of life and will be a huge money-pit in years to come ...and obviously one would like to keep a GTI looking and driving well for a few more years.

Actually steve06 that Merc is probably worth a bit more than 35k restored which I presume it would be.
As regards Golf Gtis, I have 6 of the mk.2s stashed away but they're original un modified ones and will most definitely be worth a lot of money in years to come.

a friend of mine paid over €6k for one of these recently. though it was (and i've rarely said this before) in showroom condition. i know lots of people with these and none of them are boy racers (a couple of guys are actually middle aged)....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭junkyard

Ahem....what do you mean by middle aged?

I suppose middle aged depends on how long you plan on living.....
