Argentina to win this 2-0 I am predicting. Mexico just do not seem to be at the same level as Argentina.

What are people's thoughts on this, the second match of the last of 16?

South Amercians playing south americans is a result i couldnt predict, Argies are playing well but they have lost to SA teams and do so regularly.

Hoping Agie win but could see mexico winning and to some it would be a shock.

only one winner of this match imo
argentina to win 2 or 3 nil

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Fancy the Argies myself but am not 100% confident. After all the Mexicans only lost to Argentina on penalties in last years Confederations Cup Semi Final. Still this is different proposition and an improved Argentina side so I'm gonna go 3-1 to the Argies.

Can't see the Argies losing this one either. Mexico will be outclassed and I expect Argentina to win by at least 2 goals.

Another Argie win here. Don't think Mexico have been spectacular.

The Argies will win this but not by more than 1 goal imho.

Argentina to win.Mexico are no push overs, but I think the argies will be the winners.

I'll go with 2-1 to Mexico.

I'm going with 3-0 to the Argies, but I think they might not score in the first half.

But it's a SA clash, so it's like a derby

Does that mean that the Portugal V Holland, Germany V Sweden, France V Spain, and Switzerland V Ukraine, games will be like derbys as well?

well france vs spain definately could be considering they are right across the border from each other! :D

Why yes it does, insightful comments.

However, perhaps if you look at the results between SA teams, or watch some of the matches, you will see the differences in the SA teams and how they play.

Mexico are 12/1 to win on Betfair, that's got to be worth a punt!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 844 ✭✭✭casanova_kid

Mexica wouldn't even be considered South America, so this derby nonsense is absolute rubbish. Argentina to win and win easily, not enough genuine class about these Mexicans.

Nonsense! If you're implying that all South American teams play the same brand of football and play to a similar standard then you are way off the mark buddy.

Like Europe, Asia, Africa etc there's good teams bad teams, woeful teams, long ball teams and short ball teams.
"It'll be just like a derby match"is no more than a tired worn out cliche at this stage.

Indeed, where is that implication? Oh I see, you just imagined it.

    Results

FIFA Confederations Cup Germany 2005 - Mexico vs. Argentina - 1-1
    Friendly 2005 - Mexico vs. Argentina - 1-1
    Copa America 2004 - Mexico vs. Argentina - 0-1

Here's an idea. Instead of just jumping down by throat you have a look at how South American football has, and still tends to, work

So what are you saying? If a match is close and ends in a draw or a narrow victory its considered a derby match?
Three Dundalk matches from this season@
Dundalk FC 1 Cobh Ramblers 0
Cobh Ramblers 2 Dundalk FC 1
Dundalk FC 0 Cobh Ramblers 1
Would you consider these Derby matches?

PS: Sorry for jumping down your throat.

I don't know how those results prove anything to be honest, players like Saviola, Riquelme and Messsi will be too good for the mexicans, who don't have a world class player among them.

    That's the whole point.
They weren't good enough in the last three matches they played, they drew twice and won one 1-0.
Yet Argentina are quite clearly the better team.

It's like a ****ing Derby match when teams from Argentina ploay, that's why the results don't make sense.

First off Mexico is not in South America so it is not two South American teams playing against each other.

Mexico are not a great side but they do have quality and tend to create chances. Their problem is sticking the ball in the back of the net. Omar Bravo seems to get himself in the box alot but more often than not he misses. If he can sort out his finishing then I think this game could be quite close. I still expect Argentina to come through it but I think Mexico will score and give them a good game of it.

You could argue that any of the teams that compete in the Copa America would be "like" a derby match, besides:

Decision not being made til close to kick off. Apparently Borgetti will decide if he's fit enough.

lol great thread! as has already been said mexico aren't south american they don't play in the south american quaIifiers and are only ever invited to play the copa america to make up the numbers, same as the usa.

Possibly but there was another player covering.

I don't like seeing pro's trying to get other pro's sent off, there appears to be quite a bit of it so far in this competition to date.

I think the Argies will nick it but they''ll know thay have been in a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Hmm, whether or not Ayala could have covered Heinze is highly debatable, he really saved his bacon. Fantastic game.

Ayala can do anything he wants to! :)

That was a stone wall red card. The Mexicans can will this but won't.

Nice to see the 'Cheating Argie' tradition lives on with a few clutched faces and dives.

    Mike.

Agreed, he knew he had lost the ball and he was the last man.

Doesn't really matter if Ayala "might" have got back, it was a goal scoring oppertunity.

At the time Heinze was last man and he took the player out. Red Card

Well we have ET for the first time in these finals. I think now that Messi is on for Argentina, they will nick it.

Argentina look more likely, Tevez in particular is causing Mexico problems with his energy and pace, feeding on Riquelme's passes. There's Messi too.

    Zinha looks good too, mind.

if i had to bet on anything it would be on messi finishing this,
either that or some sort of penalties.
