Getting good speeds this morning, but they are very eratic, not staying consistantly high. It'll be interesting to see if they improve or not during the day!!!

I wonder how accurate these are?

    Irish Internet Speed

    Irishinternetspeed.jpg

    Irish Surf Speed

    Irishsurfspeed.jpg

I'm still fluctuating around the 1150kbps mark on a 3meg connection, but still getting max upload 384kbps.

Edit: Just noticed, there's no surfing in Ireland today!!! lol

Jarvis can you also pm me the email addresses you complained too.
Spoke to BT again today 2 weeks on and issue still exists.

I thought Eircom had there days but never had a 2 week problem
    resolution .

I got the following update at 13.30 today.

"There has been a lot of escalations and investigating over the last 48hours. The good news is that the fault has been isolated and located to an exchange in Dublin which would appear to be impacting the Ashbourne areas for all Broadband users regardless of supplier. There are currently a team of technical engineers working at the exchange at the moment and so we are expecting a further update this afternoon."

"I will come back to you as soon as I have a further update."

Here's hoping it's not long now!!!!!

Cheers for the update Jarvis, seems like it should be sorted soon enough then.

    Guys,

I am again in the Ongar/Clonee area & broadband if looking like more & more like dail up (ridiculous!).

Anyways I logged the fault today (1-337533509) & tech support confirmed that Eircom are looking at the fault & the latest (hot off the press!) is they have actually found the fault.

So hopefully this will all be fixed soon.......

As soon as someone notices it fixed can they post it on here?

    Cheers!

i noticed over the weekend my connection went from 200kb to 1mb approx

maybe a fix is sooner than we think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,497 ✭✭✭jarvis

I also noticed that my speed increased to around 800kb from Friday. Early this morning I was getting 2.41mb which I didn't get too excited about as I noticed the same last Monday morning too and it just returned to it's lower speeds when I got home from work that evening. So I expect the same result tonight!!! I find www.speedtest.ie the best for checking speed, anyone else got good sites to check? I also use www.url.ie/qv
Either way speeds are still crap and when I do get those good speeds early morning they're very erratic. Can someone else try this morning glory syndrome and let me know are they getting better speeds A.M.
Also, has anyone got a phone call from BT recently, without actually having to contact them first??? If so what are they now saying?
I personally blame those Eircom idiot's. I wonder would they have already fixed this problem if it was effecting eircom customers?
There's a thought. I got an E-mail from BT saying that it was happening to everyone in these areas regardless of ISP. Does anyone know someone with a different ISP having these problems???
    Jarvis.

    Hi
I have been checking my speeds at various times and they are uniformally s***e - so no morning glory syndrome for me (although maybe even slightly more s***e in the pm). I am in the Clonee/Ongar area.
    Cheers

    Navanman,

I am also in Ongar. How do you reset your modem? I have the Zyxel 600 that Esat BT supplied me with.

LCP is "Link Control Protocol". It's the basic coonnect your modem needs to make to the network before it can set up a PPP session and actually log you in to the DSL servers. When LCP is down, you ADSL connection is out to lunch.

QOS is "Quality of service". It's pretty much self explanatory.

Anyone fancy chasing them with a phonecall today?

I will be able to do it tomorrow if its not fixed by then.

But too flat out today to have time to be on hold for 30mins etc etc..

Tech support called me today an left a message saying that they have updated the exchange and they were ringing to see how I was getting on and I was to call them back!!! The bloke didn't leave a name and when I called tech' they didn't know who called me and asked did I notice any difference in the speed inanyway. I told them I'm now getting 80kb/s instead of 40kb/s but I should be getting much more on a 3MB connection. They agreed and said they're still working on it and wil be in touch when they have more news. DOH

    Guys,

Just onto Esat BT Customer service (Sarah - very helpful) who apologied etc etc & have given me 2 months free broadband.

They put me though to Tech Support who didnt have any update except that Eircom were still lookin into it. & that they made need a part & thats the added delay (Brilliant)

Anyways, make sure ye all ring up & get some sort of compensation! Feel free to quote my fault no. 1-337533509

Hopefully we'll be up & running before the weekend!!

Got a call from Bt head of global products a short time ago. She said that Eircom applied a patch on the exchange yesterday and it didn't work so now they need a new piece of hardware and they're waiting to get it from Alcatel, they should know more tomorrow, She asked me to post what's happening on here. I jokingly asked if they had to order the part from Russia.... She said NO. Looking good! Brookie, did you get a reply from those E-mail addresses I sent you??

I got a call from the head of products also, nothing today mind but its good to see we may be getting somewhere. My speed has increased slighty from 200kb to around 800kb

I got a call from BT too. Said they'd applied a software update and to see if it had helped.

    It hadn't.

Hopefully that Alcatel part arrives by courier soon....

Fair dues to you for posting - but maybe, as a courtesy, BT should think about contacting their customers by email to let them know whats going on. There must be hundreds of customers affected by this?

    Its fixed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH !!!!!!
I'm torrenting now and my speed is back up to 200K/sec,6 times faster than i was getting for the last 2 months.

    Guys,

    I am in Ongar also.

Is there anything special I have to do e.g reset anything?

Also, what speed test program/website is everyone using?

    Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,744 ✭✭✭kleefarr

    I haven't done anything.

Last checked a couple of days ago and I was getting 1024kb/sec.When I checked a few minutes ago 3072kb/sec.

It tells me on my Linksys ADSL Gateway/Modem

Strange how the upload speed always stayed the same though.

I'm in Kilkenny and have been getting fluctuating speeds of around 1100kb/sec for the last two weeks.

Wixy - http://www.irishisptest.com/runmyspeed.php , u.tv/speedtest and also try downloading a large file from ftp.esat.net to see how fast your connection is.

It should be back to normal now.

My speed on Ongar is still same :(

Rang Tech Support & they said the Clonee & Ashbourne exchange issue has now been fixed & that this must be just a issue with my connection!

    Great :(

There sending a guy out to the exchange on Mon. to have a look at my connection.

Am I the only one that is still SUFFERING from slow speed? (150 Approx Kbps)

As I reported earlier, my connection in Ongar/Clonee still slow. Phone Tech support & they phoned back a cpln of hours later to state that it a "PDN fault" and they were getting Eircom out to the exchange to have a look at it.

    Anyone else got any updates?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,497 ✭✭✭jarvis

They are aware that the fix didn't work for the AShbourne area and they are going to continue to pressure those idiots in Eircom. It's good to see that half the problem is sorted. It can only indicate a good chance of our area being sorted soon. If anyone in Ashbourne does get good speeds, let the rest of us know please!

My arse it's back to normal. I'm in Ashbourne and ISPTest shows I'm getting 27.0 kbps down / 295 kbps up.

I know it can be very erratic, but that's worse than ever.

That's so odd, mine has been holding steady at about 2.3/2.4Mbps for the last 2 hours or so. I'm hoping it's going to stay like that in the longterm.

This is unacceptable I'm asking for compensation for june / july
