You may or may not be aware that Enterprise ireland is conducting a trade mission to Japan this week. One of the areas they seem to be concentrating on is fisheries.

I just read this article on RTE about them negotiating a deal for refrigeration technology.

I just wondered if anyone could clarify this for me? I thought Enterprise Ireland were supposed to be encouraging Irish export and trying to tilt the balance of trade to our advantage.

Is this deal not to do with importing?

It is about importing technology with a view to improved exports. I don't think there's a problem iimporting appropriate technology. What I think is slightly disapointing is that we don't apperently have the research facilities to implement the technology. Surely what can be done in the Grimsby Institute of Higher Education can be done here. No disrespect to said college.

Here's something from the Grimsby Institute's website:

For some reason there is no mention of this new technology but it does mention the trade mission to Japan.
