    Bertie is taking us for fools! While this lot will enjoy well deserved salary increases the poor patients will be fighting for trolleys in A&E. Good to see the money being wisely spent. The politicians have begun to believe their own lies.

    We will be seeing HSE statistics showing a dramatic decrease in hospital trolley use but not for reasons of efficiency. The numbers will dimish because people would rather suffer in the relative comfort of their own homes than on a trolley in a scruffy hospital corridor.
    TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern has cleared the way for the Health Services Executive to receive an additional €340m this year.

    The Government has approved payments out of the supplementary sum for the salaries and expenses of the HSE staff.

    While technical in nature, the supplementary allocation includes other services administered by the HSE, including some grants.

    HSE chief Brendan Drumm recently expressed himself "amazed" at public controversy over his bonus of €32,000, approved by an internal committee.

    Speaking of committee;
    A camel is a horse designed by a committee.
