What is that Spitfire like BigE. I have been looking at them over the last few weeks and they can be picked up pretty cheap in the UK. £1,200 would get you something fairly decent. And if you manage to pick up a pre-76 you'll escape VRT and tax.

What's it like to drive ? Is it very small inside ?

    Anyawy..

    The cars I have owned

    1992 Ford Escort
1995 Pug 405 - for 3 days. It met a sad end. Lucky I didn't go with it
1996 Mondeo - Served me well. I bought it with 60k on it, sold it with 165k
2002 MG ZS - Still Have - For Sale
    1999 BMW 318iS Coupe
1995 VW Corrado - Just Sold
2000 Saab 93 Turbo Coupe - Still Have - For Sale
2000 VW Passat 1.8 Turbo - Still Have - For Sale

1989 Mini - only 998CC but had all the cooper styling. Looked great but was in terrible condition - definitely a "project" car. Only lasted 6 months or so - was gutted.

2001 Peugeot 206 1.1 - Bought this new. Nice little runner, nice to have some mod-cons after the mini. Great resale too, lost very little over 2 years.

1999 VW Golf 1.4 - Wasn't mad on this car. Good few niggly problems with it - all apparently quite common with the Golf.

2000 Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 - Great car, but lost a lot through depreciation over the 2 years I had it. Lovely handling & styling, and not ONE problem.

2000 BMW 320D - current car since April: Enjoying it so far, fuel economy not quite what I hoped for though. Has cruise control and aircon which makes for a confortable cruiser on the motorways. And insurance is about 1/6th of what it was on the Peugeot 206!

    Short and sweet

86 Fiesta 1Ltr - Rustbucket held together by the paint, but still managed to get 40k miles out of it in 19 month before it all came to an end.

96 Polo 1ltr - Bought from new, 14 miles on the clock when I bought it, 96k miles on it when I finished 3.5 years later. It kinda "bumped" into a ditch..

97 1.6ltr Mondeo LX - Has served me very well, 42k miles on it when I bought it in Dec 99 and just passed the 163K miles. Still going, just a few bits and pieces need to be sorted and a good service. Gonna see can I get it to the 200k miles mark cause its not worth selling. :)

Would love a new car, but I bus it to work 4 days a week, kinda pointless to buy a nice new car and have it sitting idle for most of the week.

    Tox

    Austin METRO 1.0L 1981
    Austin METRO 1.0L 1987
    Volvo 740 GL 1989
    Volvo 940 SE 1994
    Hyundai Trajet GLSi 2001

Nothing to shout about, I'm afraid. Going from the Metro to the Volvo was some experience.

I bet - the old 740 was the defination of a barge.

Oh dont get me wrong and didnt mean to ruffle your feathers, i'm not a sandal wearing, bearded tree hugger or anything, (though i do have a problem with some of the more preposterous 4x4's doing the rounds) actually love cars from a design perspective, particularly Italian motors just never had the time or inclination to buy, drive or own one...

    1994 Mercedes C280
    2003 VW Beetle 1.8T
    1971 Mercedes 280SL

That is the coolest & most eclectic mix i've seen so far!

    Me?

'95 Nissan Almera hatch - bought in '00. Ugly, boring but great handling. Way better to drive than Escorts/Corollas of that era.

'01 Avensis Aura - got a good deal on an ex-lease car, good spec. Hated it though, bland, old mans car, woeful handling.

'04 Mazda 6 Sports Tourer - it's an Alfa 156 substitute in a way. ..Good loking/sporty-ish saloon without the tears. Love it actually, can't think what I'd replace it with. Lexus IS200 /Audi A4 / next Mazda 6 maybe (?)

The guy I bought that car from told me a great story about taking his mother for a spin the day he bought it. A very elegant lady by all accounts, she (very discreetly) got sick in her handbag..
