Modem dialing but...

    Lucent dial-up modem.

    Trying to dial eircom, 1892150150

    I can hear the number being dialed and the other computer making weirds noises afterwards but the other computer doesnt answer and that's the error message that is given. If I try to dial my mobile the mobile rings.

    Another modem connects successfully to the same ISP in the same location.
    I have also tested the lucent modem in a different location but same story.

    Is the lucent modem gone?

    Sounds like it. Maybe the connectors a bit worn or something is degrading the signal quality sufficiently for the training to fail.

    I know you can hear the number being dialled but can you actually hear a dial tone??????

    Sorry presed enter by mistake.. check your cables.. you can test your modem in control panel
