    the updates make sure everything runs smoothly.

    Without them you are more prone to virii and trojans etc etc

    Updates WONT work with a copy of XP that isn't legit as the serial can only be registered once, and if it is a copy, the original owner obviously is the only one allowed to do updates.

    Just go to the site I linked to earlier and use that to get your updates for XP.

    Hey, I was that guy! I said turn on automatic updates cos it... well keeps your XP updated against security holes. Why else do they have it? You also said you had problems with drivers etc... well it might fix a few things too. Mine is always updated. Just go to control panel>Security Center and get your updates working.
