Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Kenta Kobashi Diagnosed with Cancer

I just heard that Kenta Kobashi has been diagnosed with cancer in his kidneys. It was found out after a doctor told him to get his kidneys checked after a routine checkup for all the NOAH workers

Kobashi is one of the best wrestlers around today, and has been one of the best for a long time. He had the Wrestling Observer match of the year last year with Samoa Joe when he came to America to work some shows, and they've rated something like 20 of his matches as 5 stars. I've seen a lot of his matches and he's an amazing worker, to say the least

Apparently when he found out about the cancer, his first reaction was to ask how it will affect his wrestling, rather than how it will affect his body

Hopefully he beats the cancer and gets back to full fitness as soon as possible

Great video of one of his recent matches here with KENTA

Sad to hear that. Kobashi was one of my favorites.

No reason why he should still be one of your favourites, he is not dead.

Apparently the survival rate when the cancer is detected early is high enough, and should be for someone as fit as Kobashi. If it was detected later he'd have a much lower chance of surviving. He probably wouldn't have found out anything about it for a good while if it hadn't been for the mandatory checkup

thats what you have to hope, that it was early stages, you can't just take it for granted, some people find out way too late, just being diagnosed isn't enough, still the main plus for him is the amount of new drugs that are coming out, his chances will be greatly improved by these, but again, it may mean a whole new lifestyle, these drugs control the disease and stop its spread, they don't kill it off and therefore he may never be in the condition to step back into a ring again, hopefuilly thats not the case, it's bad enough that he has to go through this, it'd be rotten of it to rob him of his dream aswell, he's a long fight ahead of him, and you can only wish him well.

I just read the news from ROH earlier today, part of it says: "ROH officials were in negotiations to bring Mr. Kobashi back to ROH later this year for a rematch against Samoa Joe. However, we have been told that Mr. Kobashi will never make another trip to the United States again."

That certainly doesn't sound good..Really hope he beats it

Terrible news :( He is one of the best in ring psycholigists(sp?) of his time and has been in three of the best matches I've ever seen. Its a shame he wont get to have his rematch with Joe, yet!
If Misawa dropping him on his head for 15 years didn't kill him, cancer has no chance!!!!
    Get better soon Kobashi!

    Update from the observer:

Kenta Kobashi underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his kidney yesterday at a hospital in Tokyo. The surgery was announced as being successful.

thats a massive step forward, he'll still have to go through some chemo or other treatment but it won't have to be as long, and therefore wont have as bad an effect on his body ( it'll stil takje a terrible toll on the poor chap) but if they can really beat it well it gives him hope to return to his career, and from what little i've seen it was a good career.
