    Hi there,

Wondering if anybody can advise me on what I need to do if I was to purchase a car in Northern Ireland and bring it back to the Republic?

How easy is it to do this?

What is the vrt on cars coming into Ireland?

Do I need to get the Licence plates changed and if so how do I do this?
Even if I dont have to I'd rather an Irish plate as the area i'm living in at the moment is'nt great and would probably be vandalised if had the Yellow plate.

    All advice appreciated.
    Thanks

Read this. It's the exact same process. All the questions you asked are answered in there.

when you pay the VRT you are issued with an Irish reg number... and don't be afraid to ring the garages on the service history.

one thing though. my mechanic buys cars from the north all the time and he says "clocking" cars is absoutely rampant with "companies" specialising in changing readings and buying up service records from scrap dealers and the like. i don't know, it's just what i've heard....

as always give condition as much consideration as mileage, and don't be afraid to ring the garages on the service history.

You can calculate the VRT here (but it may be subject to change when you bring it in)
