Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, on a Toshiba laptop and a wireless connection - works fine, except for certain sites where I cannot log in, others I can. What's the story?

    TIA,

    Seanie.

maybe ssl related traffic isn't allowed by default

give an example of a site you can't get on to.

Login sites I can get into no problem include boards.ie, webmail.eircom.net, irishastronomy.org...

    The ones I can't include vodafone.ie, mail.yahoo.com, meteor.ie...

Using Firefox, but happens with IE too.

Can you plug directly into the modem/router using a cable to rule out the wireless as a cause?

    ISP?

Are any of these using non default ports etc eg 8080 used by vodafone mail or can you just not login to the main site?

Given the sites you mention, definitely sounds like an ssl problem. Are you using a proxy?

Are you with Irish Broadband by any chance?

Upgrade your firmware. That sorted it for me. Next reduce the MTU setting on your router. Google MTU and HTTPs problems....

Never any problem with a hardline connection.

For the life of me, I have still never found out what a proxy server is!

Nope! With last mile (begrudgingly and unfortunately)

    MTU??

The wireless net problems are occuring both at home, and a place of work. Same websites and all.

Sounds like it could be an MTU issue.

If you have a router, change it's MTU to 1460 and see if that works. If you don't use a router (although I'm guessing you do), you can use Dr TCP on each PC.

1460 seems to work for most people, but other values might be required.

Go into device manager and uninstall the wireless network adapter. Reboot and let XP detect it and re-install it.

    Any luck with changing MTU?

Edit: Link with good info on MTU

Had a look at that webbie, and I don't think it could be the problem. Reason being it is just certain login sites. I can browse through the same sites as I mentioned, just that, on my lappie with the wireless, it won't let me "get in" after the name and pswrd phase!

Doesn't rule MTU out. You can login into some sites and not others with an MTU issue. It doesn't always affect all sites.

Try it anyway, if it doesn't work so be it. But it could be the issue.

    are they all https urls?

    this might help:
    http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/17.html

also try disabling any firewall, particularly norton

Just an FYI... and a 'thank you'! I did that MTU thingy irlrobins, and it has solved my problem. I can (so far) log into those aforementioned sites without any problem.

Thanks for the help and tips guys!

    Seanie.

Just as a matter of interest what browser are you using? I've noticed a problem today with IE 6. There are certain urls that I can't access e.g. gmail. However once I use firefox voila works fine. I've tested this on two other machines on our network with the same problem (there are some that work). Have MS released some new patch that might have tinkered with things?
