Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why is keeping frogs illegal? They're not endangered, are they?

Up to a couple of years ago they were on the 'red-list' of endangered species in Ireland. Their natural habitat was being destroyed and an outbreak of a salmonella type disease greatly reduced the numbers of frogs on the island.

By my own observations the numbers of frogs do appear to have recovered, but according to a friend of mine who works in the wildlife service, there is still a need to keep the ban on taking spawn from the wild in place for a few more years to enable the numbers to consolidate.

The irony is though, it could have been the fact that people created little nature parks in gardens that aided the recovery of the frog population!!
