Has anyone used or been to a wedding with HUSH from Tullamore?
I came across them in a pub last year and they were fantastic, just what I'm looking for .... I think! I was rather pissed that night so my judgment may have been clouded. They're playing in Westport next week so we're going to see them in a sober state but as its a pub again I won't get the full wedding-y feel so would be great if anyone could recommend or otherwise. I have enquired and our date is available and they're pretty reasonable and do the dj too.

My back -up idea is M.A.S.S from Sligo, brother-I-L to be saw them at a wedding and said they were brilliant ...

    Hi Everyone,

We are getting married in the Midlands in November 2013. We are looking for a wedding band that will cater to the crowd, have everyone dancing for about 2 hours before the DJ steps in. There will be aunties, uncles, grannies and grandads. They all love to dance.
If anyone has any suggestions or wants to PM me, you are more than welcome. We are on a tight budget too, so any new or up and coming bands that are reasonably priced we would love to hear from ye!!

    Thanks
    PL

Has anyone booked Moog 69 recently and could advise how much they cost. They come highly recommended and I'd be really interested in them for my wedding next summer.

I was looking at them on YouTube today, I found the female vocals to be very overpowering for my taste.

Kind of looking at small bands, trio. The hitmen trio are quite good but beyond the budget I think.

all bands go to midlands so you have your pick

Here's the way to do it, based on recommendations in this thread write out 10 bands. Ring them all.

Then based on their setlist on their website, prices and availability, narrow it down to 3 that you think could do it. Pick a weekend and do the hard work of going to view them. theyll give you a few weekends of dates, be great if one was near you but yo may have to travel. ring the day before to confirm firstly your date is still free and also to confirm youre going to see them so in case something came up youre not travelling for nothing.

Pick one after that as you now have done your homework.

Any idea what kind of style you are looking for or just a general wedding band that does everything? If you're looking for specialist swing/jazz/soul/ethnic music then that will definitely narrow down your search :) weddingsonline.ie will also have a few recommendations if you post there.

Best of luck, you have quite enough time to find the perfect band ;)

thank you both for your replies! I'm trawling through a few websites to find a band who'll fill the floor for the night coz I was at a wedding and the band were so bad it ruined the entire mood of the day!

theres over 70 bands that you can pick from in this thread alone. I tried to compile them all once, I may get back to it. Theyre all "great" if you were to believe 1 or 2 anecdotal recomendations.

I think theres 100+ bands listed on weddings online but dont take that as any marker of goodness as its a paid advertising site.

Look for frequent recommendations over time for any bands that you have in your narrowed list.

  • Registered Users Posts: 232 ✭✭AoifeCork

True about the suppliers on weddings but if you POST (like I said!) looking for recommendations, stating your requirements/music preferences then you will get feedback from current and past brides/grooms.

I think that may be more beneficial than trawling through 100s of pages on this thread.
Also look at the local live music venues in your area-There might be some bands to pop along and view. Even if you don't like them, it will give you a better idea of what you DON'T want... and that helps just as much!

Best of luck Elainew. Pm me if you'd like any more help. :)

Elainew look at Pyramid, The Suite, are Amazing Apples still doing weddings does anyone know?

We looked at 3 bands altogether, online (not the list above). One band were incredibly rude and didn't reply EVER when I told them our wedding date (which was far away when I enquired, because band is one of the first things I wanted to organise), thought that was unbelievably bad form on their part. The other band were ones we had heard of but when we saw them online they were really...wedding-y, lots of cringey songs that we didn't want, saw them at a wedding after that and yep they were exactly what we don't like, but they are a very popular band in the West. We went for the last ones because they looked good and sounded good online, and when we went to their showcase they were great too. I like a band that has a showcase (do most now?) rather than a band that tells you to sneak into a wedding.

Can you be 100% sure they got your email? Maybe it went into their spam folder by mistake? Did you double check you used the right address?
If you didn't get an email reply, I would recommend ringing them and checking about that.

Well he replied to my first mail very promptly, when I replied again I never heard another word. So yes I did use the right address, I'm not that bad

It was 18 months ago and we booked another band 14 months ago so I don't think I'll be ringing them!

You might very well not be "that bad, but typos do happen though...
sorry, it wasn't clear from your post that you had actually got a first reply from them. They should've got back to you then...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭seosamh1980

I said they didn't reply when I told them our wedding date, I thought that was clear enough that there had been previous correspondence prior to me telling them that bit, sorry if that wasn't clear enough.

I took that to mean they didn't get back to you, not that you got a reply and after a subsequent enquiry about your wedding date didn't hear back.

In any case, hope the third band has worked out for you.
If not, would also personally recommend the Good Guys. We had them at our wedding and thought they were great. Their play list does include all the cringe that I (and I think you too) hate, but they obliged and played the style of music we'd requested. Their DJ was also Ace :)

Nixon, from Wexford are amazing. Super nice to deal with, really obliging and full of energy. Had everyone up for our Wedding (young and old). Their female singer has some voice!

youll find that bands that only do functions have to have showcases for this very reason.
however the band Im involved with get a lot of couples asking can they see us specifically at a wedding, not just a showcase or pub gig as they want to us live in action.

A lot of bands have a regular pub gig that they send couples to where they can have chats after with the couples.
