Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

helix......on a side note the vinyls arent midi time coded its the manufacurers own time code whereas as far as i know midi time code is universal......serato isnt midi compatible at all and as far as i know final scratch isnt either(but never used final scratch so cant swear to it)

whatever time code theyre using is the same idea as mtc anyway, it could be smpte or mtc or any one of a billion different timecodes, they all work the same way

hey guys a bit of a breakdown on whats what in the digital dj scene. Been at this game for 13 years and well into all the various Dj toys

pioneer Cdjs = Called the industry standard because they sell the most amount of units. Simple to use and solid gear.

Denon 5000's = Active platter for authentic scratch simulation. Amazing kit once u spend time learning it (I own 2 of em) 2 x 15 samplers built in. CAn play 2 tracks from same cd at the same time amongst other cool features like 4 instant hot starts and 5,000 memory points for tracks. Cheaper than pioneer and more of a creative tool in my opinion

Numark CDX & HDX = True 12" direct drive cd player. CDX plays cds while the new HDX has built in harddrive great for storing all your mp3's. Downside is numark reliabilty and cost

Final scratch = Any pc or laptop with external box that takes a feed from either 2 turntables or 2 cd players (pioneer & denon for best scratch) and allows u play tracks from your computer in real time

Serato Scratch = Ranes version of the above software. Noted in the industry for being way more reliable and stable than final scratch

Traktor Dj = Computer software that can interface with final scratch hardware and allow real time scratch n mix via cd or turntable. Also has lots of nice built in fx. Can also be controlled from various USB Dj controllers

Virtual Dj Pro = Computer software that does much like traktor BUT allows u to use & mix videos. Can be controlled via turntable or cd player too without the need for specialist hardware. A real good sound card with 4 in 4 out is needed with a good ASIO sound driver.

Ableton = Digital Audio Workstation. Ableton is really out on its own. Never before has a dj been able to Mix, Remix and produce all at the same time on one product LIVE! It does exactly as it says in the tin. Amazing product. The only thing u cannot do on it at the moment is scratch. (But u can record scratch samples and add them to your mix) There are many many variations on an ableton setup. Yes its EXPENSIVE software but even if u just used it as an outboard FX box it would wipe the floor with something like a pioneer EFX 1,000 which is not cheap by any means. Yes ableton can beatmix for ya. But it doesn't make life easy for u. You still gotta put in the work mapping your tracks etc. A true performer will really shine using ableton creating massive buildups addind in virtual drummers etc all on the fly. Imgaine having a huge rack of fx units etc plugged into your dj mixer and then some thats what ableton is. To get the best from ableton you need to know a little about production. Know a little about djing. Once u learn the interface the rest is up to what your mind can create!

There are many other products out there but I am sure that the experienced guys will all agree that the above is about the cream of whats out there. Oh and for good measure I thought i would show ye this new product from denon that is sure to make some waves. Its a sure sign of things to come!
