    Hi guys

I need a bit of advice. Any comments you might have will be considered. Briefly I moved to an allegedly respectable rural area about four years ago, having bought the former marital home of a divorced couple. I now find myself residentially surrounded by the adult children of this former couple. One son operates an informal car and plant sales / repair business to the rear of my house.
Recently unauthorised building worked commenced adjacent to my boundary. I duly contacted the local planning authority and the works were stopped pending review. A detailed but limiting planning consent was granted to the development which was to be a "domestic storage shed" but which resembles a substantial metal and concrete commercial premises. Since such a structure would diminish the expected sale value of my home I sought redress via an appeal to An Bord Planola. In the interim all works have been stopped until their decision in November 2006.

I have just returned from holiday to find that my car, parked out of sight to the rear of my property, has been vandalised. Nothing had been stolen. It was just an act of sheer, wanton vandalism by disgruntled neighbours. The police know who is responsible but are powerless to do anything. I now face a repair bill of E7,500.00.

In the absence of formal justice should I involve the informal, (paramilitary)resortative justice specialists who are eager to assist?

I really don't know what to do for the best.

I dont think you want that sort of assistance involved but not sure what you can do about it, if anything.

Speak to a solicitor first, if you have not done so already. Check out if a civil case is possible. Now that you have spoken to the guards, anything that you've suggested would fall ten times worse on you.

I'm not sure if I am getting this wrong or not but are you asking should you hire vigilantes to rough up the said parties? if so then no, you'll get yourself into more ****.

I'd set up some sort of surveillance so that you have proof.

Good stuff, just remember to keep your hands to yourself and not inovlve vigilantes. It would blow up in your face.

Have just learned that the individual involved received a punishment beating 4years ago for similar anti-social activity. How are decent, law abiding citizens supposed to cope with such scum?
